Revell; Good business or big loss?

Even though we could still do with someone like him it was an amazing bit of business.

We could go and get someone better than Revell if we had 150k to spend, so the fact we got that much for him is great as far as the club is concerned.

£150,000 is good money for Revell but we could do with him in the squad at the moment and the fact that we wasted £55,000 on Dixon leaves a sour taste in the mouth. We basically got £95,000 to have Hart as our back-up striker.

MASSIVE fan of the guy , but fantastic business again by the club

again we pluck a reletively unknown player out of nowhere , get some FANTASTIC games and goals out of him , then knock him on for a tidy sum

just hope , and it no doubt will happen, that he doesn't score against us tomorrow..

I really don't agree with everyone on here. Revell was a good player who will be a hit for Southend. yes he was injury prone but he was strong, good in the air and worked a lot harder for the team than Murray.

I really couldn't see a team like Southend looking to snap up Murray.

Why would they not want to sign a natural goalscorer? I can't understand the people who criticise Murray. He may not work as hard as Revell but there is no way Revell would have setup Forster in the way Murray did against Crewe and Barnet. We could not reject £150k for Revell and it was a great profit. I honestly believe we miss Savage more.

mate , i'm agreeing with you on the Revell front BUT I also think that's abit harsh on Glenn

it seems we have another Confidence player in Murray - I mean for example take when we bought him all the games up until (in my opinion) the Carlisle away game he was quality , however up there he saw opportunity after opportunity go begging and it took him a while to get back to some sort've form (again I feel the last 4 games he back showing promise)

he'll come good again - it just needs a couple of goals to get him firing again :)

I know and I think Murray will get a lot of goals again this year.

I really hope Revell doesn't so anything tomorrow . . .

He may have run alot more than Murray but i can guarantee you that Murray has set up more goals in his time here than Revell has.

Revell actually contributes nothing to the all round performance of the team, didn't bring other players into the game and was poor with his back to goal. I would not say Revell was strong as was pushed off the ball fairly easily.

Looking at the numbers may not necessarily tell the story - we invest in players, we don't just buy and sell.
He WAS a constant 1st-team player, which is something when you look at some of the players brought in, or on our books for years who won't ever break out of the reserves.
So, perhaps £150,000 is still quite low.
That we got that fee WHEN we did, is somewhat better business, and at that time we also made deals that worked out alright, using 'the Revell money'.
No gain or loss really then.

What is more to a point though, is probably the politics of his going - in events that exacerbated the discontents between the board and manager. It was at a time of several minor revolts among staff, and did Dean Wilkins no favours. His departure probably made more of an impression at the club than O'Callaghan or Savage leaving.

150k for someone who was only ever going to be backup off the bench is an incredible bit of business by the club.

Can we send a DVD of Dixon playing in the reserves to Southend?

If it was a question of Revell OR Murray, then I'd rather have Murray.

However the best solution would have been to hold on to Revell AND buy Murray. That way we would have three proven strikers, surely a requirement for a team pressing for promotion from this league.

That would have been the perfect solution that Revell would have made a good back up but never good enough to help us gain promotion from this division as a first choice striker.

Revell is a good team player who will get you 10 goals a season, a poor man's Heskey if you like.

The profit on his sale helped us buy Murray, a player who should get 20 goals in a season. You get promoted when you have a guy who scores 20 goals alongside Forster.

Overall, I liked Revell - a guy who can do a job in League 1 but not exactly box office.
