Actually those of us who grew up in the 1960s remember them as 'Treets' (there was a peanut one as well). They were 'chocolate in a candy shell, melts in your mouth NOT in your hand'. (Or words to that effect)

I'm sure they were called Treets way after that, well into the late 70's early 80's maybe when i was a nipper.

Ah-ha...chance to trot out one of my most favourite jokes of all time.....

I went to the doctors with a peanut in my ear.
The doctor told me 'no problem, young man, simply pour in some chocolate and it will come out a treet' !!!

No, they were the 'chocolate with the less fattening center' (Because there was a lot of air).

Maltesers need very little encouragement to melt. If you don't believe me, hold a handful of Maltesers in your clenched fist and then look at the resulting mess.
