[Albion] Returning Away Tickets

I know this has been discussed before on here but I haven't found the relevant threads.

I have a ticket for Arsenal away but now family requirements mean that I almost certainly won't be able to go to the match. First time this has ever happened to me. Tickets are sold out so someone would definitely want the opportunity to purchase the empty spot that I would otherwise leave. It's such a pity to let it go to waste. Of course I can no longer simply pass the ticket on.

I called supporter services who said that there is no mechanism for a ticket to be returned or made available to another person.

I know that I have read similar advice to this from supporter services on nsc but I also seem to recall that I have read some people's experience of actually being able to return a ticket. Is this simply my memory being wrong, have things just changed over the years, or is there a chance of getting this ticket back in the available pool ?

Last season we had Villa tickets but couldn’t go due to the train strike. Supporter Services told me exactly what they’ve just told you.

Returns may have been possible in the deep and distant past with paper tickets and no names on but I can’t see how they would do it now.

Nope. No solution. Gaping hole in the ticketing process, particularly with games like Arsenal where they are electronic and could be easily cancelled/reissued.

Thanks for the responses folks. At least I know for sure.

Now all I can do is hope that somebody in the family ( except not me..) catches something very mild but is concerned enough to reschedule the whole gathering rather than risk infecting old folks.......

I wonder if it is anything to do with the fact Brighton sell the tickets to the emirates - if someone cancels and it is still in their digital wallet and it doesn’t scan - does it not scan because it was cancelled or does it not scan because of a problem with the emirates gates? Can’t imagine anyone can be bothered with this at the away side.

I can also imagine when the tickets are sold out someone sends a spreadsheet manually so it is done and dusted, I doubt every premier league club is joined up for this.

Utterly bizarre there is no resale option with a digital ticket. It’s clearly possible.

Utterly bizarre there is no resale option with a digital ticket. It’s clearly possible.

It's not just digital tickets, I think 2nd season Premier League had 2 Bournemouth away tickets however youngest couldn't make it, paper tickets but club just advised nothing they could do.

I realise this is entirely unhelpful as a reply, but I've looked at a couple of other club's websites in the past when this has come up, who do allow returns of away tickets (at least within some reasonable limits).

No I can't remember which clubs (maybe Tottenham?), and I have no idea how they actually do it. As I say, entirely unhelpful.

I'd have thought that it shouldn't cause a problem as long as the ticket hasn't been printed, and even if it has it should be possible for the resold ticket to be collected from the away ground (as long as the numbers involved weren't too high, anyway).

Point was it should be much easier with digital tickets….can understand why paper tickets might be more of a faff for the clubs

Was about to ask the same question.

It’s pretty much the approach that’s followed at most banks I’ve worked for, in identifying a problem and establishing what the competitors do, before regulatory and cost is considered!

Maybe they could follow some airlines policy of overbooking seats and then on the day if more people turn up than the number of seats available then those who miss out can be offered a seat at the next away game as replacement.

If some people don’t turn up then there is no problem and all seats will still be full thanks to the glorious overbooking policy.

If that was implemented I can’t see how it would be anything other than a total and complete success.

Revenue opportunity missed for PBOBE by not having this plan in place already.

I guess there’s nothing, financially, in it for the away club hence this archaic process.

We can’t expect PBOBE to have to refund people’s travel expenses.

They just need to have it covered in the fine print terms of ticket purchase that in the event of an overbooking situation ‘customers’ are responsible for their own travel expenses and you accept the risk when you make the purchase. Profit is then secured. Q.E.D.

The club are capable of working something out, they did for the European away games.

There is obviously not the same desire from the club to maximise PL away support.
