Visiting Berlin end of March.

Anyone know a decent restaurant for a large group (15) in the City
around Lutzowufer strasse? Or Mile or so around?

Ta.

There are some nice places around Winterfeldtplatz, just south of Nollendorfplatz. Also an excellent (and slightly legendary) bar right there called Slumberland for afters.

If you are looking for something different, try the Dunkel restaurant (Gormannstr. 14). You will need to book well in advance. The idea is that you choose from one of two or three cryptic menus in the welcome bar of the restaurant. You are then taken to the dining room which is absolutely pitch black - you cannot see your hand in front of your face. The waiters help you to your seats (you have to put one arm on their shoulder as they guide you through the restaurant). You have to rely totally on taste, smell and touch when eating your meal. Pouring your wine can be a bit tricky as can trying to figure out if you have finished your meal. :).

They have one of these places in Prague... upstairs...normal...downstairs...total darkness...mobile phones are taken off you etc...and your waiters are blind....

I remember that some were partially sighted and some were registered blind. It was amazing how your other senses come into play and how much you normally rely on sight when experiencing a meal.

What happens if the waiter accidentally puts his hand on my Bratwurst?

If anyone has a recommendation for where to get a decent pork knuckle in Berlin, well that would be dandy. :)

Brauhaus Georgbraeu by the riverbank at Spreeufer near Nikolaikirchplatz is a decent shout. I'm sure one of our party had one there when we went last May. It's a fun place for large groups anyway with own brewed Helles and Dunkel beers served in pitchers of various sizes and traditional German food. Mid market not posh. Large but gets booked up at the weekends.

May be good for the OP although not right in the area he stated, Berlin is very easy to get around on public transport so that doesn't matter much.

The best beer bar in central Berlin however is the Brewbaker which is under the main railway/S Bahn line by Tiergarten station. Very hoppy own-brewed pilsner and monthly specials, a lot more full flavoured than the beer at the Georgbraeu. And as the name suggests they are a baker as well as a brewhouse.

I had a fine couple of meals in somewhere called 'Haus der 100 Biere' (great name for a bar/restaurant - it just lured me in) a couple of weeks ago. Seemed to cater for everyone, there were elderly couples to stag parties in there, decent atmosphere, superb choice of German beers and to eat I had a f**-off huge pork knuckle with all the trimmings, and the other night a Sauerkraut platter with a top selection of bratwursts, pork and lamb.

The original one is supposed to be even better, but I went to the newer one just off Potsdamerplatz.
