Fully deserved and I will now share that was who was there when we ate there recently.

Also coincidentally reviewed in the Telegraph https://www.telegraph.co.uk/food-and-drink/restaurants/fourth-church-hove-restaurant-review/

I remember you posting, I presumed it was Jay. I’ve been just the once, loved the food, and had a brilliant time as I ended up drinking wine with Machiavelli and Goldstone1976 and their better halves.

As an aside, Grace wrote one of my favourite restaurant reviews in a long time.....https://www.theguardian.com/food/2020/jan/17/silo-london-e5-restaurant-review-grace-dent

Man, one week into the lock down and I miss restaurants already. Which reminds me, I had a trip to London three weeks, or so, ago which I need to write up.

GLDHI: does HT still like St John?
G1976: I believe so, yes.
GLDHI: *Sigh*
G1976: Quite

Yes, F&C was a very fine evening. Most enjoyable.

Right, that’s two boxes of St John wine glasses you’re getting as a moving in present. Choose your next words carefully or it’s three!

Speaking of which, I'm currently gravitating from using Riedel glasses to Zalto glasses, which are just extraordinary on so many levels. This isn't quite so much for you, but the other in the 4&C party.

Ta. Any chance that you can cut and paste (you can PM me if needs be).

Ah sorry didn't realise it was behind a paywall as I could access it freely first time I looked.

There's a copy on F+C's facebook page https://www.facebook.com/fourthandchurch/posts/1613741458808483 Slightly odd review - not edgy enough for Hovians apparently!

Paul had a big smile on his face when we gave him a thumbs up this morning whilst walking past!

They are still open during lockdown for wine sales if not as a restaurant.

Thanking you muchly. I know Paul pretty well -- he used to work at Butlers which is at the top of my street, and has a cracking palate, and I'm a wine enthusiast so we bonded early. They've had all sorts of challenges, but it's such good news that they're finally getting the recognition they warrant. Last time I spoke to him about such things, he said that the re-design had really had a positive effect on their takings.
Their original plan was to roll out a few neighbourhood restaurants/bars across the city, so that might be something to look out for in the future.

During my short trip to London I visited The Harwood Arm’s; despite some of the clientele being a bit too West London it’s a very nice gastro pub out Fulham way. I had a glass of 2017 Henry's Seven, SGM, Henschke. It was recommended by the waitress, and very nice. I’ve been thinking about it ever since actually.

Yes, that Telegraph is an odd 'review' of a restaurant.

I remember Jay Rayner explaining how he writes a review, a key component being a little story intertwined with the review. Given the river nonsense, it seems the Telegraph reviewer follows the same idea albeit in a much more clunky and forced manner.

With Pitch having to close again, Kenny Tutt has got a street food van he is parking at the front of the closed Tudor Close pub in Ferring On Fridays , Saturdays & Sundays:

All sounds very nice so hope to give it a go next weekend

There is a nice lady in Worthing that has been doing a weekly run to the Easy Tiger in Brighton so got that for a 'take away' this week, currently sat in my fridge to be reheated later.

Pork Vindaloo
Safron Rice
Parsnip Pakora
Parotta

Update later.

My missus went to Kenny Tutts van last weekend about 1pm. She queued about 30 minutes to order and the collection system was fairly chaotic but it is decent honest grub, worth checking out she said

We went to the Kenny Tutt wagon thang a couple of weeks back. Got our grub within ten minutes of arriving on a Saturday lunchtime. The High Steaks was extremely good. Same price as a high end burger (at the likes of Troll, Burger Brothers, etc) but with sirloin instead. If I lived more local, I'd be heading back for more.

Fourth & Church has still very much got it. We had the weekend set menu, and you don't have a choice over such things. Stand out dishes were the smoked cod's roey, sea bass tartare with cucumber juice, and pig cheeks with turnips. All of these were eclipsed by a staggeringly good 2017 Nebbiolo from Aldo Conterno. I'd tried some of Conterno's Barolos at a tasting at Butlers a few years back, and they were some of the best wines I've had. The Nebbiolo wasn't quite in that league, but it was quite something, with voluptuous tannins, and great concentration of fruit.
Due to their restricted opening, it was great to catch up with both Paul and Sam too. Need to get back there to sample their onglet cooked on their new grill.

The arse end of Hangleton
So probably the last bounce of this thread - especially as B&H is in Tier 4 - I just happen to have got out before Christmas.

A lunch time visit to Nathan Outlaw's in Port Issac. Beautiful setting overlooking Tintagal and the sea.

Water brought straight to the table without asking which always scores highly in my books and a decent bottle of wine from the Loire Valley ( one of my favourite places on earth ).

So on to the 'pre-starter' - Cod Roe, Jerusalem Artichoke crisps with Sough dough bread and Cornish butter. Generous portion and very nice.

Starter proper was two dishes - Raw Scallops, Citrus & Fennel with Yogurt and Cured Brill, Celeriac, Chilli & Coriander. I'm not a fan of either raw fish nor scallops in general ( why does everyone rave about them ? ) .... but two utterly fantastic dishes ..... could have eaten loads of both.

Next came Smoked Haddock, Curried Lentils & Curry Mayonnaise - the smoked haddock fish cake was great and I enjoyed the lentils. The mayo was too spicy for me but I am an absolute wimp when it comes to heat !

Now for the best dish on the menu - Turbot, Bacon, Roast Onion, Swede & char grilled Spouts in a red wine vinegar sauce. OMG !!!!! Best fish dish I've ever had ! This alone is worth his two Michelin Stars !!!! Fish not overcooked but equally not under cooked. Never tasted an onion like it either. Definitely 'last meal' standard.

And finally, the dessert - Chiox pastry bun, Chocolate, Peanut, Orange, Toffee Sauce - by far the best dessert I've ever had. Taste, texture and flavour all spot on. Mrs WS said she could have eaten 10 of them !

Overall, if you like the Little Fish Market then you'll love here ( it's actually better ! ) and if you like the Sportsman and fish then you'll also love it here ( just less courses ). Can't possibly give it anything but 10/10 - I will have been here for 2 weeks this coming weekend but I'd drive the 8 hours there and and the 8 hours back over a single weekend just to eat here again. Probably one of the best meals I've ever had.

Last two pre lockdown visits were to the Chilli Pickle and Bardsleys two of my favourite places to eat in Brighton.
Chilli Pickle have updated their menu to include ‘other Asian inspired dishes’ under The Hawkerman moniker. The aubergine dish in particular was great.

Bardsleys in my opinion is as good as when Roy and his family ran it. The new owners have carried on the traditions they inherited and the place has great charm and delivers on the fish and chips.

Not restaurant related but take-away.

For those in Shoreham, Tonys Fish Bar near the railway station closed quite a while back and has now finally re-opened as the Shoreham Fish Bar.

We had our first take-away last night and back to top quality fish and chips.
