Well, we were talking about our relative experiences in Polpo in Brighton and London, and I was just seeking clarity over whether he was offering an alternative to Polpo in London or Brighton, given that Google reported a restaurant named Plateau in both places. I grant you that my question made the assumption that TSB had in fact visited London at some point, but I considered that a fair bet.

I'm glad your experience of Polpo was better than mine - but my two visits (London only) have both been really poor.

I'm old-fashioned and prejudiced enough to question whether Canary Wharf is part of London (perhaps it's now better put that London is part of Canary Wharf). I suspect TSB has been to London too, but my point is why go to Canary Wharf when you live in Brighton or Hove actually; which is something different from the question why go to London when you live in Brighton.

Went to The Talbot in Cuckfield yesterday for lunch. 2 courses for £10.95. I had spare ribs for starter and arancini for main course. Fantastic value for money.

Had the cheap lunch in Riddle & Finns on Friday. Moules followed by COD with Shrimp Butter, pepper mash and greens. Large glass of Sauvingon, 3 rock oysters, coffee. Spot on as always, under £30.

I don't know why I don't go more often

Bloody love it in there. Singapore Crab is to die for. Problem is it takes me about 45mins to get through it

Went to Latinoamerica yesterday to try their lunch menu and for the second time in two visits I left thinking 'yeah, it's fine'. The disclaimer on this is neither visit have I had a steak, in which they specialise.

Between myself and the wife we had a chorizo sausage, calamari, milanesa a la napolitana and salmon.

Sausage - Excellent. Really meaty.
Calamari - very generous portion but the batter could have been lighter.
Salmon - this was fine, nothing more.
Milanesa - fried beef covered in melted cheese and oregano served with fries. Way to heavy for a lunch thing and a huge portion. I'd take this off the lunch menu personally. Too heavy.

All in all the value is good at 19 quid all in but the cooking is clumsy, if you ask me. I keep promising myself I will return for a steak to give a them a change to convince me but currently they are sitting on a 6/10 score which might even be generous.

Hi Chappers,
I've eaten here with Simon and some of our friends recently and we were rather impressed. We had:

- Toasted bread with herb butter & chimichurri - £3.50
- The Argentine Meat Experiences - £46 for 2-3 ppl + Chimichurri sauce £2.20 and Peppercorn sauce £2.50
- Papa Fritas - £3
- House Salad £2.50

The steaks were fantastic, succulent and full of flavour and the Chimichurri sauce is a real taste sensation. (N.B. they are better cooked medium-rare, than medium - I tried both)

I'd definetly reccommend the steaks if you decide to go back and the meat experience too, as you get to try all different cuts, which is a nice way to compare and find your favourite. We had, fillet, rump, sirloin and ribeye. The rump and fillet were the favourites.

That reminds me I need to write up a review of it!

Another good place I've found is SIX on Western Road, formerly Hove Kitchen, Barneys and Richards:

Can't speak for the one in Brighton, but the one in London is exactly this. Oh, and the food is bang average too. And tepid. And not value for money. Otherwise, it's fine.

Completely agree about Polpo, only been once but food was very bland. If you’re into your big flavours and seasoning than it’s not one I’d recommend.

The one thing I really enjoyed was the crisp pizzette (mini pizzas). But the cod cheeks, lentils & salsa verde didn’t fuse at all well as a dish – it felt like the cod was just plonked on a bed of far too many lentils. Oh and the batter on the fritto misto I had (seafood deep-fried in batter) was also underdone.

I'm glad it's not only me that thinks Polpo is over hyped. Just looked at your website - really good - now added to my favourites !

I agree with Westdene Seagull , a good site and I've been dipping in a fair bit. I notice from your site you have a foodie trip planned for here, Berlin. I'll be very interested to hear where you're planning to visit. When you planning to come?

First trip to Perch on Lancing seafront today for lunch after a swim with the kids in Worthing. Probably a mistake in a way as they are really busy and we had to wait half an hour for a table with hungry kids but that was our fault and we ended up getting drinks and crisps while we waited so no biggy.

Good tasting food and mostly great value. Had the moules and frites. Only a couple of shut ones, slightly over cooked but not too badly and a sauce that was mopped up with bread and then slurped with a spoon. Bacon in the sauce and no salt on the chips which actually worked for me.
Son is still raving about his (adult sized) fishfinger sarnie. Daughter was impressed with the taste of the kids Mac and Cheese but we all thought it was too small. Still, just over £40 for four of us including a drink.

VERY doggy and child friendly. It actually wouldn't make sense for them not to be like this because their passing trade is all dog walkers and families, but it can be hard work navigating toddlers and wagging tails with a tray of drinks when it's busy.

Don't go if you dislike pooches in restaurants. Do order adult sized meals for any child aged seven or over.

Crabshack in Worthing for me today. Their sun terrace out the front is a real sun trap which was nice. Nice Whistable Bay Pale Ale to start.

We shared the fish plate for 2. Dressed crab, Mackerel Pate, Crab cake balls in red pepper sauce, prawn cocktail, smoked salmon served with a small salad, chips & bread.

Always good for a informal lunch. Not very big but we got lucky.

Total bill with drinks was £45

High tea at Fortnum & Masons in the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon. So, high tea is where, instead of those silly little sandwiches, you get a nice hot starter. Amongst the choices were eggs royale, benedict or Florentine; welsh lamb loin; lobster bisque and some others. I chose the scotch egg which was served warm with a runny yolk on a fresh mango chutney which was really a selection of mini-veg in a mango curry sauce. Mrs DCH went for the Welsh Rarebit which was nothing like any she had tried before with cheese appearing to be fried into the bread and served with a caramelised banana shallot and tomato. Both were very good.

Next up were the scones and little cakes. The scones were served warm, one fruit, one plain, with clotted cream and jam. There were also four very small but incredibly rich and tasty little cakes. One had a small cherry which seemed to have been steeped in Kirsch for about 5 years it was so intense. I was stuffed at this point - so little food in size but so much in taste, calories and richness. They offered more scones and little cakes but not for me. To finish, there were a selection of cakes from the trolley. A huge lemon and raspberry sponge, a very rich looking chocolate cake, a variation on a bakewell tart, a battenburg and a banana loaf. As we were both full, they kindly beautifully boxed the cakes for us to take away.

Accompanying all this were a fine selection of teas. Mrs DCH went for the Queen Anne blend (we now have some in the cupboard after a visit to the store afterwards), I had the Irish breakfast which was a fine strong blend.

The cost was £46 each and for a special occasion this was very nice. Although everything is served in the formal manner you would expect, it is not a stuffy in F&M as some of the other locations which made it a little more relaxing and enjoyable. There is also a pianist playing in the background which adds to the ambience.

Thanks Herr Tubthumper.

We've actually been and come back from Berlin, that was in February but I still haven't written about it!

Found it very hard to find a good, traditional German restaurant though. We found one Dutch/French place that was very good called, Dressler, but it would have been nice to get reccomendations. Can you reccommend any
where?
