[Easy 10]

Me and the missus went to the Indian Cottage in Shoreham High Street again on Saturday. I can't tell you what good value it is there. What am I saying, of course I can.

Its really good value there.

Just make sure you ask for the £10 set menu. Its not really a set menu at all, its actually the WHOLE menu, and you can choose any starter, any main and any side dish, all for £10. The only slight caveat is that its an extra £2 for any prawn dishes, but I always have chicken anyway. So after a couple of poppadums with a generous carousel of lime pickle, onion, mint sauce and chutney, we had:

2 starters (sheek kebab / chicken tikka)
2 main curries, both served with pilau rice
2 sides (naan bread and onion bahjee)
1 pint of Kingfisher
1 bottle of house white

The whole bill: £35

My curry on its own should have been £9.45, so to get it all for a tenner is quite frankly marvellous.

Very nice. It's no 1 on my Mrs wishlist. Is it a bit stuffy? I know its tie and jacket for men. Been to several.Michellin starred places but.none with serious dress codes.

As for fine dining in Brighton thoroughly enjoyed Drakes recently.

Not stuffy at all. Jacket and shirt required but no tie. I wore shoes, jeans, shirt and suit jacket and felt perfectly comfortable.

The Ginger Fox

Did the Pig last year and this was very very similar. It's basically just expensive pub food but done so well you don't mind paying for it. We had a voucher but 2 courses for a couple plus wine and a shared dessert, oh and coffees, came to 75 quid. Pricey but oh so nicey.

For comparison, last year we had an equivalent meal at the Hand and Flowers in Marlow which has 2 stars and that cost us an extra 15 quid. And was one of the best things I've ever eaten.

Overall 8/10

Went to Zuma in Knightsbridge last week.

Food fantastic ( check out the Black Cod), not cramped like a lot of places in town and excellent service.

Oh and the chocolate fondant was to die for.

Interesting, went last time and was a bit under whelmed. It was 'Very Good' just not 'Excellent' - service let it down a bit as we did not get a lot of attention, and seemed a bit scripted.

Can't really fault the food though!

Every day. And I have chicken most of the time. I do venture towards lamb on occasions. Prawn curries are rubbish though.

Been a busy month thus far, here you go ....

Wabi, Horsham 7/10 Good food, a little style of substance and very busy bar.
The Swan, Fittleworth, 8.5/10 Excellent food, great atmosphere and setting but service average.
Pho, Brighton, 8/10 Great food and good service, worked well with the kids as well, all round good evening
The Swan, Arundel 8/10, hadn't been near the place for food for years, a refreshing surprise, good food, great beer and very cheap.
The Bay Tree, Arundel 8.5/10 Still very good food, great busy atmosphere but over priced

Burger & Lobster - three branches in London (Green Park, Soho and Farringdon). £20 only 3 things on the menu - a burger or a lobster or a lobster roll. Go for the lobster, steamed not grilled. Pretty damn good but dont take bookings, and may need to wait a long time.

Going to SushiSamba in The City on Saturday, and expecting great things after visiting the Las Vegas branch last year.

Brighton - Went to the Yeoman last week. As always very good, fresh and seasonal food.

Never had a bad curry there in 20 years, always quality

My fave 3 outside of Brighton centreal are :-
Limes in Lindfield - Small, but very good quality food, looking at £30 a head for 3 courses. Off to the standup for a nightcap after.
Peacock Inn - Piltdown - Fantastic old style country pub, brilliant food. Always loads of specials.
The Rainbow Cooksbridge - I had heard it was take over by Marco Pierre White but has since sold, no idea if it's true or not, but great place, very small public bar then a decent sized restaurant. Menu doesn't change that often but food great. Bit out of the way if you don't have a nominated driver.

Finally went to Cote yesterday. Finally ticked it off after everyone said how good it is for a chain.
I have to say I was also very impressed. Very good service, liked the wine list, my rib-eye was cooked to perfection and they put our Kir Royales on the house when the waitress heard it was my wife's birthday.
Great stuff all round. 8.5/10.

I think he's reduced his menu right down for the next couple of weeks as he is moving the business into a pub in town and wants to focus on preparing for that.

Had lunch in La Choza earlier in the week. Maybe I wasn't in the best of moods when I went in. The food was decent, but the service was just too casual. I am not sure they will be doing me a favour again and letting me eat in their restaurant.

This was my biggest problem. Staff were more bothered about their hangovers/comedowns and the service was AWFUL. Food is good though, so a tough one!
