I used to really enjoy reserve games - sometimes more than the too-serious first team stuff because not winning didn't hurt so much

Swa some very enjyable reserve games at the Goldstone. Only time I sat in the West stand. Mind you, I lived round the corner and entrance cost peanuts. Saw the best own goal of all time at a reserve game when an Watford player chipped his own keeper from about 45 yards. Very funny.

I used to go to some of the reserve matches at the Goldstone too, around 1981-84,with my mates from school and we used to sit in the south stand and try to create some sort of an atmosphere :lolol: .Was all very surreal though with just a handful of people rattling round that old ground,we used to use it as an excuse to stroll around the pitch and the empty terraces at half time!!.
I remember you used to get an A4 sheet of paper as you went in with the team names, players etc poorly typed on to it.
Also remember one game, think it was against Bournemouth reserves, where a bournemouth? player got his leg broken and you could hear the crack echo around the empty ground, made me feel physically sick.

Ha ha,possibly......did you go to Hove Park School?
We also used to sneak in the ground to sit in the west stand to eat our packed lunch during school lunch breaks and regularly used to get turfed out by the apprentices/youth players/staff who were there sweeping the stands :lolol:
