After the Saints game, I actually thought we could challenge 60 points this season. Sadly the wheels have now come off and I 'm not now sure whether we will even better last season's 16th place finish.
The players seem to have switched off having reached 48 points and the last two performances have been awful.
We are 6 points behind Walsall in 13th place and will not bridge that gap.
Who was the muppet dragged onto SCR last night, who predicted a finish ' around 10th '...I've got news for you, sunshine, we are 10 points off 10th place. And talking of SCR, what a piece of shite that was for an hour last night. Barely a caller all show..an ongoing discussion about the complete lack of atmosphere yesterday ( they should have been sitting near me...the players were getting dogs abuse all game! ) a pathetic attempt to talk through the league table and a promise all show for the classified results, ending with a brief run-down of Div.1 at about 5.40pm.
All Gus' decent work of late is in danger of disappearing down the plug-hole and limping over the finishing line is unacceptable. We have just lost to two very ordinary sides and the problems we have had for a lot of the season just won't go away.
1) Without Murray or Forster we are toothless and ineffective.
2) We always seem to be hovering on the brink of another defensive calamity.
3) When we concede the first goal in a game, we can't come back ( 17 times this season...2 draws...15 defeats...lack of character in the side...discuss? )
4) We just can't seem to turn form around at home and go on a sustained run. This side have now lost 12 home games this season...THE WORST IN HISTORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Two games ago I was buoyant and expectant of a strong finish to the season. Now, a sense of anti-climax has started to set in and instead of looking upwards in the table, I am sadly, studying the teams below us again.

We'll be lucky to get above 18th. Very dissapointing.

Why? We are in 15th now and have a decent run in? I see no reason for us not to finish 14th and you never know with a really good late season run we may climb further, although I agree it will be difficult. I think we would all have accepted the position we are in now a month or two ago.

I have just completed the BBC predictions for the rest of the season and have us finishing 13th.

Interesting to hear on the FL show last night that Carlisle last won away on a Saturday when they beat us last year.

After then southampton game people were on here talking up how they could see us winning all our remaining games.

and limping over the finishing line is unacceptable.

What do you mean unacceptable? Like we have some divine right to be better than all the other mid table teams?

Shows how fickle so many fans are. Poyet's still done a very good job overall, let's not forget that.

I have just completed the BBC predictions for the rest of the season and have us finishing 13th.

That bbc predictor thing is a joke. It doesn't have any special equation, it doesn't work on form or any clever thing. The user guesses match results and the "predictor" just works out the table for you.

It's a flawed system because people are just guessing at results, and every week you can see the number of predictions on here that are wrong for our own results, how are we going to be any good at predicting other teams' results?

The predictor is no more accurate than someone posting on here "I think we'll beat Gillingam, Southend, get draws against Dons and Yeovil and Lose to Bristol Rovers, and end on 56 points" the only difference is you get the BBC label as if it legitimises the guess.

(not meant as an attack on you, BG, just so many people put too much stock in his predictor thing)

Just like some people put FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR too much stock in stats.

I do look at our performances and think, "what another shite season"; but, I also think that in previous seasons we haven't had the stability that is being given to us as the supporters, or the club as a whole. Before Gus came in we were in proper trouble. Dare I say, staring down the barrel of a gun towards league two. I think the complacency of the team has come from the way we were playing and beating the better teams of the league. Maybe, the talk of contracts once we had achieved fifty points has allowed the team to drop off somewhat. Nevertheless, reflecting on the season as a whole, there has been a significant improvement and thus far we are not in the relegation battle a la last season. The home form this season has been disappointing as I've been to most of these games, but; onwards and upwards. Next season we will see Poyet's team.

Like "murray scores a goal every other game"?

Yes, they do, which is why I put disclaimers in my stats thread that they don't prove anything.

The bbc predictor is just a bit of fun based on how an individual thinks the games will finish. If we could all predict everything accurately we would all be millionaires on pools and betting winnings.

Fickle, no. Expectant of the team maintaining its recent progress, yes.
Results are everything to me and I was looking for a top half finish. Most fans expected that and it should have been achievable.
Poyet's doing a better job than Slade and I would describe it as a ' good job ' thus far. He will be under a lot of pressure next season and some of these players who have regularly let him down this season, will be weeded out.
As far as I'm concerned, the last two results have been unacceptable. The players have performed at a level far below that of recent weeks.
That is either down to them, the manager or both of them. Either way, it ain't good enough, I'm not accepting it and I won't be happy, unless we now win the next two games.

im disappointed but glad we r still in league one with one season left till falmer so we can still achieve the goal of being in the championship by falmer so it not all doom and gloom here fot the rest of the season COME ON BRIGHTON the future is bright

Correct.

Even 11 points from the last 5 games will only be enough to get us up to 14th place (assuming Walsall and Carlisle will have no trouble getting 6 points from their last 5 games).

If our bad run continues and we get no more than 3 points from the last 5 games, we'll end up with 51 points. I reckon that could be enough to finish as high as 16th or as low as 19th.

I predict we will finish in 14th, 15th or 16th position.

But you are being a bit fickle. All teams have bad spells during a season and we have just had a couple of bad games. Maybe a bit of complacency has come in but more likely we miss two of our best players (three at Hartlepool with Crofts included). I am sure Poyet knows that we lack depth up front and will address it in the summer. In the meantime, the players did not perform that badly yesterday and all we lacked was Murray to put away a couple of the numerous chances we created. With him back on Tuesday and hopefully Painter at the weekend, we will hopefully get at least 4 points from those two games and everyone will be happy again in the knowledge that we have stayed up. After the Leeds game, when we were third bottom, we would have been delighted with this position.

For me as soon as Gus took over the aim was survival. Once that has been mathematically achieved we can then look to finish as high as possible. We are currently still 4 wins from that target as it stands, I know in reality it will not take that much but that should be what we are striving for.

As soon as the team in the last relegation place cannot catch us I will be much happier as staying up is the aim.
