Lived in Compton Road in the late 70 early 80 easy to park then, drove down the over day and cars were double parked, very tight in my car probable impossible in a fire engine or ambulance.

Charging restricting parking doesn't help anyone except the council and the wealthy.

You have the commuter who lives too far away from the station who is doing the right thing by catching a train to work, but gets penalised for having to park his/her car somewhere (even parking at the station if there is a car park is chargeable).

You have the residents who have bought anything between twee 3 bedroom terrace house or a giant 5 bedroom mansion, who have 1 car per bedroom, but can't park in front of their own home.

You have all the streets surrounding the area where the residents permits come into force who suffer.

The second, third and fourth car registered to a single address should be incrementally taxed higher and higher, and people with 1 car per house should get a discount on tax in the cities and all parking on roads shold be free and unrestricted. Simples...
