[Drinking] Reserving Tables in Pubs for drinking

I'm watching the England game at home tonight but I've nipped in the pub for a quick pint whilst my lad goes to football training. I'm quite frankly staggered at the amount of tables reserved for people to sit at for the football and I really dont get it.

- First come first served is surely fairest. Mikey 9 fingers might sit there with a pint of mild most Wednesdays but it isn't most Wednesdays today.
- Reserving tables encourages the reserver to come later thus reducing revenue. Why encourage that?
- Having your favourite table is all a bit league of gentlemen for me.

Is it just me that thinks this type of behaviour is worse than the Rwanda bill, Crystal Palace and Fred West combined or is it me that's not living in the 90s anymore and poor old Mike and his dog that shits itself regularly should have it's reserved seat?

I’ve seen this in cafes too. Hogging the cozy corner or place with sofas, for later.

Would love owners/managers to simply say “we don’t do that”.

Basically, it’s up to the landlord - not all do it, but it makes their life easier.

Me and my mates have booked tables at the Caxton for the last Euros and the World Cup. It was pretty much the same crowd throughout the pub for all the England matches, and was a lot of fun.

However, we haven’t bothered this time. I will also be watching at home.

They don't take reservations. I completely agree with this.

I've noticed queuing in lines occurring in a few pubs nowadays. Idiots. Just ignore the queue and go straight to the bar.

It’s annoying when you get to a pub at 7.30 and there’s a “reserved for Sharon + 5” notice on the table. OK so far. But then “Sharon ( +3) turn up at 8.30, order 2 wines and 2 tonic water (only) and sit there talking crap all night.

Pub/restaurants who reserve a table for 4pm when its only 2pm and you then cant get a seat for Sunday Lunch...........
I would ban all reservations....tried explaining to a pub manager that we will eat and be gone my 330.....but its company policy to save so far in advance.....pathetic..........I then asked how many people are no shows, quite a few he said.....so make them pay a deposit then ...

Not at all and I'm happy to point staff to someone who has been waiting longer than me. But I'm not waiting in line like I'm queuing for the bus.

Blimey! That takes me back a few years - normally someone waiting behind the bar to serve you these days (with the possible exception of Weatherspoons of course).
