The Argus reports...

"Richard Carpenter plays for the reserves against QPR at Worthing tonight (7pm) to see if he is ready to return from a knee injury at Crewe on Saturday. Colitis victim John Piercy is among the substitutes.

Albion Reserves: May; El-Abd, Breach, Elphick, Jones; Hart, Budd, Carpenter, Jarrett, Robinson; Molango. Subs: B. Watson, Mountford, Fillery, Piercy, Martin."

El-Abd, Jones, Hart, Carpenter, Jarrett, Robinson, Molango. Subs: ... Piercy.

That's quite a line up - many of these would have been expecting regular first team football. Despite our 'injury crisis', it must be healthy if these guys get the message that they need to fight for a first team place.

Good to see El-Abd back. Should give us a few more defensive options whilst Cullip and Butters get fit.

We really need Butters on Sat, especially if Ashton is playing...

That is ten decent (current or former) youth team players.

Add that to the 6 or 7 (current or former) youth teamers who will play on Saturday and that is quite an achievement.

I believe Ashton is out with an ankle injury, but Steve Jones could be back from his hamstring pull.

Jones looked a bit sharp on the box too... it would certainly help us if Ashton is injured... thank you for the info...

Interesting to see who impresses MM most out of Mahe and Jake to win a place on the bench on Saturday.

I'm more worried about Mayo continuing at the back... Hinsh is fine...

Steve Jones cannot play Saturday even if he is fit as NI have invoked the "4 day rule" which means he can't play for his club for 4 days after today's NI game.

Good news if he and Ashton are both out - I believe they have 14 goals between them last time I looked.

mayo has not done a lot wrong

Yes he has... let's face it, he's only in the team because we are down to the bare bones at the back... Cullip, Butters, Virgo, Hinsh all better cb's... Harding a better lb (although he also has made too many mistakes this season, IMHO)...

I thought Mayo played reasonably well against Shef U, although at the end, and inevitably, his lack of pace was exposed at least 3 times... got away with it tho', to be fair... was at fault for one of the goals (2nd, I believe) against QPR... other than that... you are stretching my memory a bit...

My main concern is that he will ALWAYS be beaten for pace in this div... I would therefore play Harding every time (unless the latter's mistakes get out of hand, as they did earlier in the season)...

Steve Jones has reported for the N Ireland squad and the 4 day rule has been lifted by Sanchez. It remains to be seen if he's actually recovered from his hamstring pull though.
