Going over to the republic for a wedding next year in killkenny but we want to make more of a break of it. Is there any citys/towns anyone can recommend? ive heard the north west is supposed to be very good? will be hiring a car so want to see as much a poss.

Whereabouts? In Kilkenny city itself? Nice town.

The far north west - Connemara, Mayo, etc is beautiful, if you want rugged scenery.

Far south west- West Cork lovely too, and the city of Cork is a great place.

Skip Dublin altogether.

Go to Galway - amazing

Got to Derry City (do the Troubles Tour there - incredible) and then drive round the coast to Belfast via Giant's Causeway. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing people, food, scenery and bars. Ireland has so much to offer.

Don't forget to wear a union jack waistcoat and loudly proclaim that Ireland is your favourite part of the British Isles. They love that over there. Oh and keep refering to the country as the Republic of Ireland, that doesn't bother them at all either.

Dingle Town and Slea Head Beach stay for a few days,get the weather stunning the 'breakers's at Slea Head are class. Try to get a GAA game in either football or Hurling absolutely no messing if you fancy your chances. Youtube avoid T/advisor.

Spot on. Don't even think about going to Dublin. Connemara is beautiful, Kylemore Abbey definitely worth a visit and if you're feeling flush a night or two at Ashford Castle in Cong is worth every penny, wonderful place. Galway has to be done as well, simply fantastic place.

It's a big idea.
But watch out for horses running through council estates.

I’d say Galway is the essential city to go to - fantastic! Great pubs and atmosphere . Anywhere then through Connemara and along the Wild Atlantic Way up to Co. Donegal in the North-West. Derry too if you venture across the border. Above all the people are great and generous hosts - despite our treatment of them back when Britain were still trying to behave in ‘Empire’ mode.

County Kerry and the ring of Kerry is a great view and tour. Kate Kearney's cottage and the gap of dunloe are a highlight for me.
Ross Castle, Muckros house and the lakes tour.. Sorry back to my families holiday.

Yes its in killkenny city.
And will def give dublin a miss been there a few times and massively overated.
Think we will head west with galway and up to donegal and try and get some of the north aswell

I'd try West Cork particularly around Skibbereen, although I thought Bantry was a bit of a dump, relative to the surrounding area. Many locals told me it wasn't the Brits they had a problem with, it was people from Dublin,who they perceived as buying up properties for second homes.

Galway and Cork and Doonbeg for scenery and wind. It is without doubt the windiest place I have ever been but its amazing too...
