I'm afraid I don't know who's on the shortlist, but having spoken at length with TB today (interview to be aired on Seagulls Player tomorrow) I am not expecting to see Dennis Wise appointed. His criteria suggests that it will be a manager or coach, with a fair amount of experience and an impressive CV, and it won't be an appointment from within.

It's very likely (almost certain) Hinsh, Steve and Charlie will be in charge this weekend, and possibly into next week and even beyond, as TB wants to make sure he gets the best possible candidate.

:drama:

I heard that interview. It was on the 18:30 BBC South East news programme (i.e. the Kent-based one rather than the Southampton based one). It said something along the lines that the reporter had been talking to a VERY big name who is/was/might be on Tony Bloom's shortlist. This person said that the Albion job was now 'very attractive' given the stadium and the fact that unlike a lot of clubs financially-speaking Albion don't seem to be at death's door.

This is of course the opposite to what I've been saying namely that, given the way we get through managers, we're about twelve months away from us being the ideal job. However I shall be happy to be proved wrong.

Well who has ever heard of an interviewee for a job as a football manager NOT describing it as the dream job?

Actually scratch that as I'm sure Coppell would (and indeed did when interviewed in the summer of 2002). His interview would go something like this (in his softened scouse drawl):

' Well it is a tough job in difficult circumstances and eventually all managers fail. I know the ground is on its way but there's a lot of bridges to be crossed before we get there. This is tough league so don't get your hopes up..............'

Before putting on a Leonard Cohen CD and indulging Ken Brown and Tony Bloom with his latest emo poems on why it's so hard to be a tortured genius in a modern capitalist society that doesn't value hard work.

And...exhale....thank GOD for that. Let's hope and pray that doesn't change.

Argh. This waiting really is like when you're a kid on around the 20th/21st December.

The present under the tree REALLY looks like that thing you've been waiting and hoping for, but you can't be sure and HAVE to wait.

said that one of the managers on Blooms short list has stated that now the stadium is on the way and there are funds at the club he would be very interested in managing Brighton......i wonder who it is???

Whoever it is has made a bit of an assumption they will still be in the job in a year and a half? If he wants to walk out at the new stadium, I would wait for the next manager to get sacked before applying.

Virgo was on SCR this morning (hey, I was ONLY listening for a travel report), saying the chairman is in a position to get a big name in "and pay compensation for him if necessary".
Are we going to POACH someone then ?

None of them have won ANYTHING lately, so I'd have to say no thanks.

Yeah, they're for SADDOS and people with NO AMBITION who ought to f*** off and support Eastbourne Borough. Tony Bloom's a WINNER and we only want WINNERS for managers and WINNERS for supporters. All this talk about Coppell etc is depressing, we should be aiming higher than him and anybody who disagrees with me is a LOSER. (copyright pork pie)

If he's not got a World Cup on his CV, then I'm NOT INTERESTED.
