Remove di Canio from my list, as much as i like him - he has just signed a contract extension with Swindon so its unlikely he would leave in the immediate future.

Wouldn't want any that have been mentioned seriously especially Curbishley for me it is a choice between 2 Karl Robinson or Jean Tigana as both like to play the game the same way as us has been doing so the past 2 seasons wouldn't have been wasted. If going for somebody who hasn't worked as a manager for some time I think the only choice is Glen Hoddle, certainly not Ray Wilkins.

Can't believe some people would want Karl Robinson. Can anyone make a case for why they would want him at our club, because I can't. Up and coming manager, maybe?? Totally unproven above league 1 level and a playing cv that demands zero respect from players. Would be an awful appointment at this moment in time.

He just rejected villa for Christ sakes

Something not right at Villa though - don't think it was really down to him not viewing it as a step up or being prepared to move on.

Vincenzo Montella. Currently managing Catania and got them up to 11th in Serie A in his first season.

Top division in Italy to little old Brighton? With all the problems in Italian football, you never know...

Zola I just sense might be a fans favourite but I suspect he's not the most gifted - nothing much on his managerial CV

TB might just play a wild card ... reckon whoever and whenever it could be something of a "shock appointment"
For me Zola did a pretty good job at West Ham in difficult circumstances, not very good players and no money to spend, and played very much the same style as Gus. I'd love him to come here.

Your second point might be right though. Poyet did come out of leftfield a bit, we weren't expecting him if I remember it right.

As I have said many times before. Experience is everything at this level. That's on the pitch as well as off of it. If Gus goes, we need a manager who has experience at this level, coupled with a handful of players with the same.

Don't want Karl Robinson as

1) all talk and no walk
2) just appointed Ian wright to coaching staff so clearly insane
3) looks like James Corden

Gus isn't going but if he did I reckon it would be Zola and Wise to come in.

No it isn't, being good is everything at any level. Gus took us up from League One with no experience in management and about two players who'd ever played higher. Teams who go for the same old names on the pitch and in the dugout tend to not go anywhere, except perhaps down. Compare us to Ipswich this season, they are pretty much the definition of what you're talking about.

That very much depends on who the same old names are, I wouldn't want the likes of Dowie/Bruce/Jewell/Keane for example. But I still believe there are plenty of names out there who are serial winners, who are not in work for one reason or another.

Fair enough, but experience isn't the be and end all, look at who has gone up over the last few years.

Of the names you posted, I'm not sure Keegan or Hoddle would be able to push us on despite their past pedigree, and there was a post on here that seemed true that Curbishley said he wouldn't want the job, I wouldn't mind him if he did. I think people like experienced managers because they can say he did this, this, and this so he can work for us, with less experienced managers it seems like a risk. But there's no guarantees with any manager that it will work out. I guess we'd just have to trust Bloom's judgement on that if it happens, which I'm happy to say I do.

I am more than happy to back Bloom's judgement. This era has a lot in common with the Bamber era. Bamber bought Mullery to the club after a lot of groundwork had already been done. Maybe Mr Bloom might go the same way Gary Neville lol.....

I agree but from a man living in a time bubble (Keegan, Curbishley or Hoddle would mean nothing to most of our youngsters) it seems a bit odd

I would be tempted to look overseas - someone like Paco Herrera of Celta Vigo (Benitez's assistant at Liverpool for 2 years) while Zola would be tempting and might be tempted to come and prove himself again as a manager with us.

We would need a quick appointment as we have signed no-one and I asume Vicente would follow Gus and Tanno if they go- we would need to be making some quick signings
