From BBC Sport's David Ornstein: "Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen will be interviewed next week for the vacant managerial position at Wigan.
"He has been offered the chance by new United boss David Moyes to stay on at Old Trafford - and, contrary to reports, in his existing role - but with Moyes planning to replace most of Sir Alex Ferguson's coaching staff with his own, Meulensteen would prefer to leave.
"The 49-year-old Dutchman intends to pursue a managerial career and, being among the leading candidates to succeed Roberto Martinez at Wigan, is set to meet with Latics owner Dave Whelan."
