We knew the 'stately' bit and thought it was stately home rather than pleasure dome.

The problem is that you can read the play, but you can forget the names of all the major characters unless you're starring in a production or you studied it at school. I could name all the major characters of Macbeth (studied for O level) very easily, but virtually none of the characters in any other play, apart from the obvious ones, despite having read most of them at some point or another....
