Are you boys sure it was 89?....from memory I thought it was around 91...I stand to be corrected.
Plenty of space on one of the terraces. It's interesting that the crowd was only around 14,500. Not what you'd expect for two teams that called themselves rivals, but by 1989 it wasn't nearly so intense as it had been ten years earlier. Here it is:
Pretty sure it was Easter Monday 1989. My abiding memory of the day was the respective 'firms' chasing each other up and down the road, causing a double decker bus to almost topple over as it tried to steer out of the way.....

True enough, there was only about 15,000 at Stamford Bridge when we played Chelsea - and the Palace home game was our highest gate of the season, about 13,000 iirc. Just proves that in those pre-Sky days football was dying on its arse.Didn't crowds drop in late 80's/early 90's.
Average attendances at Goldstone.....
88-89......9039
89-90......8658
90-91......8386
91-92......8010
92-93......6699
( We still dropped in 90-91 when we got in play-offs and to Wembley )

I'd rather not remember Selhurst if it's alright with you. What a shit hole. Enough to put you off your dinner looking at images like this:
Blimey I don't remember Selhurst looking as a good as that second image - have they given it a make over?

Twas DEFINITELY Easter Monday. Got the coach. I was still at school!
1989 - the match with 5 penalties, 4 for Palace, they missed 3 and scored 1 we scored ours. Lost 2-1

I was at that game. It made my week when they mentioned it on Saint and Greavsie the following week.
