Relegation places?

Does anyone know the reason behind there being 4 relegation/promotion places between league 1 & 2 as opposed to the 3 places between the other leagues? is there even a legitimate reason? just curious like.

Not sure but learnt a random fact that Blyth Spartans, (formed 1899) have never been relegated in their history.

I think it's because there used to be 22 teams in what is now the Championship. Four relegation places would be too many and they never changed it when they went to 24 team.
