There are too many poor refs in the PL. VAR gets all the blame when it shouldn’t. Even with multiple replays refs can’t get decisions right. If we had excellent refs there would hardly be any moans about VAR.

Not sure what the training of refs is all about, but it looks like it should be seriously reviewed and revised from the ground up.

When game after game is all about the ref and VAR, you know that there's a problem.

The rules, clear and obvious and the LACK of technology makes VAR a shitshow. Human error in the heat of the moment is so much better than interminable re-refereeing with Heath-f***ing-Robinson lines and gobbledygook communications. The multi-billion football industry at the elite level needs to invest in fit for purpose technology that will sort out offside and ball-in-play, and the rules need re-examining for handball. While this is being done - DITCH VAR.

I think there is too much for the referees to do, they should consider having one ref per side or half (of pitch) then they can keep their eyes on a smaller area or smaller set of things.

From a human body perspective- running from one end of the pitch to the other - trying to breathe, trying to use your brain at the same time for 90+ minutes - it isn’t what we humans are designed for.

Football today isn’t what it was 50 years ago, the elite players are highly tuned machines and unfortunately the refereeing needs to adapt to keep up which probably means much more money for PGMOL and for the referees themselves.

Or get the linos on the pitch and have the ref hover around the half way line directing them

Or how about having some extra refs watching on TV, in slow motion from many camera angles. Then they'd be able to always give the right decision.

Personally think var has contributed massively to the downturn of refs ability. Referees nowadays seem to have a mindset of not needing to make decisions as they think var will sort it out for them.

Case in point, I’m convinced that pre-var, the on field ref would have disallowed Newcastles goal yesterday for a foul on the defender.

Var has simply allowed the on field ref to abdicate responsibility.

Point made on another thread.
Give power of VAR calls to the teams. 2 incorrect challenges per match.
When they know the ref's made a blunder call it out and then analyse ONLY the challenged offense.
If the players are right, the decision gets overturned.

Sure it will become tactical to a certain point, and teams will not appeal things they should, but it takes the pressure off the refs to always be right about everything.
They can then focus on seeing whether the team appealling had a genuine case or not.
