Shame wanker Salisbury on VAR had his usual mare. Don't think he made any wrong calls but ffs, the time taken over them was hideous.

Listening on the radio, it sounded like the Sheffield United fans booed him off at half time, and chanted 'you're not fit to referee'.

To be fair, I do the same in most home games.
I am exceptionally guilty of blue tinted specs and pantomime reactions.

In regards to fans booing the ref, it is a standard tactic of all hoe fans, to try and influence the ref, by over -reacting to every 50/50 decision against them ( and plenty of straight forward 100/0 decisions).

I have always felt that we are not as good at it as many of our Northern counterparts.

The reason i felt the ref was decent, was that he didn't seem to buckle to the home crowd, at all.
I would expect the Sheff Utd fans to perceive this as a biased ref, as it isn't often the case.

They did…but in fairness they were about to boo their own players off before they scored those 2 goals. Can’t waste that booing energy.

Certainly one of the better officials I've seen for a long, long time. Kept control of the game and made the game flow. Any adverse comments are either sour grapes or bordering on his skin colour. Hope to see him in the Premier league soon.

He gave a couple where Buonanotte went down under 'minimal contact', so can understand their frustration at that, but Hamer and Norwood both also went through him, the former a couple of times.

Both our pens were obvious pens and the one they were screaming for came off Webster's knee. They were totally outclassed throughout, bar our mini collapse, and anyone suggesting the ref had any influence on that is totally delusional.

He let it flow where he could and pulled it back when it couldn't even after a few seconds. We didn't need VAR, all the calls they made were right

And a few of ours did go down very easily, but he correctly ignored them. Besides, I think JPVH likes getting booooooed

Prem refereeing has become a bit of an old boys club where the same ones stay at the top level no matter how crap their performance is. Today showed there are decent refs that could/should be given more of a chance. Might keep the current crop on their toes a bit more!

Agree. Some of the new crop seem really good and prepared to let the game breathe. Thought today's was really good and didn't fall for either our or Sheff Utd's nonsense.

He was calm and assured throughout and, as I say, let some stuff go for longer than we see in the Premier League, before pulling it back when an advantage had not come about.

First penalty was soft but right, both SU goals were close offside/onside calls and called right and second penalty was well spotted. Not sure any of those were 'obvious' but all called correctly

To say I'm somewhat disappointed with those very well rewarded young men at the height of their physical prowess spread all across the pitch who watched him run by and didn't do the obvious, would be an understatement

I thought all the officials did well - everything that was VAR checked they got right first time too. From where I was I couldn't really see anything contentious in any of their decisions if I remove my blue and white bias.

I thought the ref against Wolves on Monday was good too, mostly because I didn't really notice him at all.

Agreed……well reffed imo apart from letting a few Wolves players get away with persistent dissent ….which continued even after having a word with their captain

“Ref out of his depth” and effectively we’re cheats (after praising Aston Villa ).

One of the better refs I’ve seen in recent seasons, hopefully he gets given a PL opportunity.
