I am not a great fan of Rees Mogg but he is getting a battering from his opponents when he just said he would not stay in a burning building. Clumsy yes but making out he is insulting people and he is more intelligent, nah. I don't think he mean't that or even implied it. I think most of us would feel uneasy being told to stay in a burning building

Amazed this thread got beyond this post to be honest. Said what all sensible minded folk are thinking. But sadly the left leaning BBC just can't resist making a drama out of it.

The problem is that he used the phrase "People like us" when talking to Nick Ferrari. Two white males of middle to upper class. Some people have taken this as an inference that BAME or lower class people are less intelligent. That's the issue.

Grenfell is a thorny subject as we all know because of the class/race issues surrounding it. If JRM is as intelligent as he and others believes him to be, he should have chosen his words much more carefully.

Haha - this is taking towing the party line way too far. You can't possibly believe what you have written, knowing the characters that post on NSC? It is a bare faced lie - and it made me laugh.

Would you care to address these points as put forth by HKFC?

Rees-Mogg's comments were extremely ill-advised, on (at least) four fronts:

1. The 'blaming' of, and casual lack of empathy for, the deceased (and their families).

2. The conceit, that he would have acted in a 'better' way, in the panicked midst of an appalling situation, that his privilege would never, ever find him in.

3. The implied blaming of the Fire Service, whose personnel acted in nothing but good faith, and risked their lives that night.

4. The worst of all - this is a figure in authority, telling the public to NOT follow Fire Service advice in an emergency. Just think how dangerous that is.

The man is a shameless, self-interested shit, and anybody defending him is deeply, deeply naive - at best.

I'm going to go one better than describing anyone defending him as "deeply naive" and instead suggest that such a person would be.....let's be creative with this one....mmmmm yes lets go with:

A cancerous, vile, festering polyp on the anus of humanity that needs to be cut out, incinerated and disposed of as medical waste.

Yes. That's what such a person would be.

IMO.

At the end of my tether
This anti RM thread is pure political bias .
Yes, he dresses a little strange, but we should be used to him by now.
Yes, he said unwise comments about the Grenfell tragedy... he apologised. That's it , let's move on.

Firstly, he could have put it better, but it was the statement - not the implication but the STATEMENT - that they lacked common sense which was the killer.

And I would have been equally disgusted if one of my political heroes had said it.

Do I assume from that ridiculous post, defending the indefensible, that you are a conservative voter.

Exactly.

If you were asked about this, why wouldn't you say who knows how they might react in a situation like that?

Did you ever respond on that thread a while back when you were asked to name the straight-down-the-middle, unbiased, tells-it-just-as-it-is-without-an-agenda source where you get all your news?
