Shit, Zef, sorry to hear that mate.

Different circumstances, I know, but my redundancy four years ago turned out to be one of the best things that had ever happened to me, so hopefully things will look up for you, too.

REdundancy best thing for me as well, no longer tied down to a company or public body

It could be a blessing in disguise, but not a pleasant way to start the day.

Have you thought about training to do the new home inspection reports? The timing could be good and it may fit in well with your other skills while allowing you to develop your own business. I just paid a designer £900 to submit a planning application and will pay a similar ammount for the builing regs drawings. Your ACAD/Solidworks experience would make that fairly trivial for you to do. Good luck.

good luck Zef finding something else and contract is an option I've often thought about. I'm also CAD and was made redundant from toolmaking firm few years ago but there wasn't much about by the coast. But it seems to have perked up over the last couple of years. I did use ProE for 8 years now done a bit of SolidWorks, till I got made redundant again  now in Redhill using Inventor, it's rubbish in comparison

Just remember that the Chinese word for 'crisis' is the same as the Chinese word for 'opportunity'. (Not being able to speak Chinese I don't know if that's true or not but it SOUNDS good!)

Like others I've been made redundant (twice!) and for the past 10 years I've worked for my own companies. Mainly in I.T. but because I'm answerable to nobody I've also been able to dabble in other sidelines like music and video production.

I know you've hinted on here before about wanting to go out on your own and this could be the time.

Zef, bad new mate, but I've been self-employed for 9 years and you can't beat it.

The secret is to be organised and not to get lazy because you haven't got a boss to answer to.

Thanks everyone, cheered me up and given me a brighter outlook already. as I was home by 9am I've just sweated buckets in the workshop fitting a custom exhaust to a mates car and earnt £100, spoke to a freind who wants to interview me for a short term contract tomorrow, so the roses are looking good already.

as has been said, keep focused, look onward and upwards . . . .and don't go down the pub till you've finished the task in hand !!!

going to Feed Arthur and then go to the Pub for a few pints

cheers all :drink:

Sorry to hear that :-(

Paddy was made redundant about six years ago and really it worked out to be the best thing for him. He set up on his own then and is a totally different person (in a good way! ha) than when he was being dictated to by others.

I hope everything works out OK.

had a couple of pints and feeling good

after 3 redundancies in 6 years I think its understandable that I want to be my own boss, I'm going to see how the next week pans out and take it from there

I guess if I'm not posting on here all day thart means I'm busy doing something constructive !

On a brighter note mate, I presume you have mortgage cover which pays for your mortgage if made redundant or am I just being silly.
