It may not be finances, or finding the right sort of player, it might be our targets are holding out for a bigger club or or some other reason not divulged to us lesser mortals.
It's a need to know basis, not a want to know

The dull part of the south coast
Understandably Barber sticks up for staff and has always said how good this dept is. Have even heard him say how they look ahead and always have players on radar for each position. How is it then we have not had a wide left defender in last year. Potter bought his own man in for recruitment which was an addition to team.
So many now say we havent got money to buy a striker which may well be right. As well as Covid reason is also we wasted so much on transfers and wages on Andone,Locadia,Percy,Alli etc. Was Ashworth in situ when these signings made

The answer to all your queries in your post : I don’t know, you don’t know, we don’t know. The club won’t tell you as it’s none of our business until such time as they feel it’s right to do so. In other words just let them get on with it and in the meantime let’s enjoy the start of the season without the non-stop fretting about recruitment.

You may wish to notice that there has been very little transfers so far this window, and the financial means clubs are struggling and I think the French (no TV money) and Spanish (the big 3 are €1bn in debt each) clubs could be desperate by the end of the window so I could see bargains around - just have the player to get wages off the books (supposedly Barca offering to pay half of Coutinho wages to get him away as if he stays and plays a few more games they owe Liverpool £20m or so)

I feel sorry for Potter. He is, without doubt, a superb tactical manager, but, due to recruitment failures we have had to start the season with Duffy at CB, Gross at LB and zero goal scorers in the team. He must be feeling frustrated.

Bollox to Potter. He's an over-promoted mediocrity. Just the same old recruitment failing by the club. Oh well

If the thread bores you so much don’t read it and don’t feel the need to contribute.

The OP had a valid point. I won’t reference the striker situation but how can I much praised recruitment department fail to identify a single left sided fullback/wingback within our price range and then execute the deal?

I think that’s a valid question to ask.

It is a boring thread. The OP is yet to contribute a valid point. And I'll contribute to this thread if I want to.

This.

I highlight Southampton's capture of Adam Armstrong as the ideal way of doing business. Withinn days of selling Danny Ings to Aston Villa, they had found, and signed, his replacement, Adam Armstrong.

Ok so perhaps they were in were in a better position financially to be able to do so, (although l didn't realise that they were).

Nonsense. Southampton sold Ings, who has scored about half their goals over the past two seasons, and whose presence has coincided with them escaping the relegation zone. The two situations are in no way comparable.
It's only the top clubs that can dicate the timings of transfers. Our recruitment strategy, endorsed by Bloom, isn't to be impatient. It's to bide our time, and pursue the additions to the squad that can improve it gradually and for the long term.
I'm still confident of one or two quality additions who are pushing for a starting position. We've just managed to beat Bunley away (never an easy thing to do) without these additions, and also with a number of injuries and/or absentees.

Have to agree with this summary.

I think we need a little more.

Old Chinese proverb say he who starts a thread moaning about the club on the morning of the first game may end up looking like a bit of a dick come 5pm.

Now in the time I have been on this forum I have quite liked many of your posts, giving thumbs up where appropriate, but I think you are way wide of the mark with your comments here...

What do you think the answer is and why do you think our Recruitment dept have not done this? Do you think they are deliberately trying to fail, for the club to get relegated and for us to watch lower standard football?

It’s got to be this.

Winstanley/Ashworth are surreptitiously trying to take us down.

So that Bloom looks a wrongun with his budgetary constraints.

Then we start winning games regularly in L1 or the Championship, supporters warm to that and Winstanley/Ashworth come out of it smelling of roses.

We should sign a striker that scores 20+ goals a season.

For under 20 million.

Not on outrageous wages.

With premier league experience'

and nice hair.

Come on recruitment team, get your shit together.

No-one on here will be able to answer it though.
