Typically would recommend not paying more than £10 a trade and if you're portfolio is likely to push your cgt above your personal allowance then you want someone reputable who can get your tax Credit info and reporting done efficiently.

Hargreaves Lansdowne is pretty good but depends on want sort of size trades you're executing.

I use Hargreaves and they provide a very good service.Some firms just sell or buy for you and others (Hargreaves) do research on companies etc and give at a small extra dealing cost an excellent service.

If you want to dabble and not just buy & hold (TD & Barclays) then to trade via apps in order for me Spreadex, Finspreads, +500, IG, Barclays CFD's. Easiest sign ups are via a bank that 'knows' you, less ID Reqd
As for tips F&C Global Smaller Co's chart has been running well, have a look & has increased divvy for 40 years, however backing Jez Corbyn via Betfair @ 2/5 is an easy 40 % in under a month...
