The Bible. It has it all, love, hate, war, sex, drugs, murder plus more. Plus you could even say it was 65 books in one.

you can get more than one book for £40. Don't forget that HMV accept Waterstones vouchers if you wanna spend money on music or film, shit T-shirts or books about Banksy or Gangsters.

Well, yes, I had figured that. I never said I was only going to buy one book - I just wanted people to recommend their ONE, that's all

Not these ones, I don't think. You can still use HMV ones in Waterstones, but not the other way round I don't think. Anyway, I also have some Zavvi vouchers, but that's a whole other thread....

To Kill a mockingbird bird, a book that has stayed with me since school. One of the only books that I periodically re read. I always wonder why she only wrote one book?

Okey dokey:

Some excellent reads, some trashy, some thoughtful

The Keep: F. Paul Wilson-Not to be confused with the shocking Michael Mann Film adaption: Excellent thoughtful stuff when Nazi Soldiers face an ancient evil which makes them look like the Girl Guides.

The best war ever: Sheldon Rampton &John Stauber: Precisely what Bush and his gang are up to in the Mid East.

A Scanner Darkly: Philip K Dick. You are in the mind of a drugs officer posing as a drug dealer who has to report in disguise to his superiors on his own suspicious behaviour..total mind bomb.

Treason: Orson Scott card: Just read it

Awaydays:Kevin Sampson: Of Course.

The Exorcist: William Peter Blatty: I love the fact that the Priest involved is the last one to believe in Satanic Possession, actually "Legion" the follow up is great too.

as 10cc say, not in hove
have only read his book about Africa which was absolutely outstanding, where else has he written about and how many books has he written?

he wrote a lot about africa, also the shah, amin, central america, the old ussr, and most recently just before he died last year, a form of biography. in all, in english, i'd guess about 10 books

i'm a big big fan of the travel genre, and he was outstanding. there isn't a duf book among them.
