Sussex but not by the sea
This needs to be the next focus of the Albion off the pitch. Now the academy is up and running.
Ridiculous how other clubs have just waltzed into Sussex.
Just a couple of examples which are very annoying are:
K2 sport centre Crawley is a "Chelsea Training Academy"
East Grinstead sports centre is a "Crystal Palace Training Academy"
This needs to be well and truly fecked off if we are to get the young future prospects in Sussex to the Albion.

I think we should stop fighting ourselves before we invade anywhere else.

Agreed. We should all take back some of Hampshire and Kent.

Isnt this the aim of the academy. In the summer of 2013 driving alomg the A27 at Nth Lancing there were numerous adverts for Chelsea Summer School, that is what we should be attacking.

Friend of mine has a son, I guess in the under 13 or 14. There are kids who come down from Kent, London etc.

He also said that age group is doing rather well against the likes of Chelsea and other Premier teams.

Don't worry, guys, it is happening

I like the sentiment but these other clubs can improve standards of clubs and decent coaching for young players too.

It is doubtful if any of the boys that train with Chelsea will ever play for them. The last player to come through with them was John Terry .how long ago was that? About 12 years.

The only thing we can do is offer better facilities and first team prospects than the opposition, and have the best eye for spotting potential.

Let's hope we have all that.

To get them we need to spot them first, what age do we start
taking kids? We then need to provide top quality coaching, facilities etc to keep them and nurture / develop them

Hang on. Wasn't there a thread last week about us running sessions for promising kids in Whyteleafe (I think it was Whyteleafe, either way it was somewhere very close to Croydon)?

How do you propose to stop Chelsea recruiting little Crawley protégés? Surely it's down to the management of the K2: if Chelsea want to pay them for use of the facility, then they're going to.

While your idea is all very worthy, in practice, it's simply not going to happen. By the way: where would Crawley Town be allowed to recruit, given your criteria? :)

We shouldn't be looking to make Sussex bigger.
We need to make it smaller.

We need to rid ourselves of all the Northerners like Horshamists and places that don't exist like Burwash.
The Eastern Europeans from Eastbourne and beyond. THE CLUE IS IN THE NAME PEOPLE.
Not to mention all those Hampshire wannabes in Bognor.

Dig a moat.
Then we can tow REAL Sussex down to the Caribbean for some winter sun.

High up on the South Downs.
Seriously, this sort of thing is healthy. Brighton is full of DFLs. Some of their kids are going to sign for London clubs. A huge percentage of young players never make it into a decent level of non-league football let alone make it as pros. There are bound to be young players from Pompey and Gillingham territory who sign for the Albion. Anyway some of our fans have delighted in slagging off local players like Harding and Lynch. So there you go.
