1 goal equals 1 goal not various permutations of meaningless points

When a goal is scored the fans go mental and cheer with a primeval fervour, we don't play some cheesy repetitive tune on an industrial size organ and whoop and holler (whatever whooping and hollering is?!?!)

Bendy free kicks that go in off the underside of the bar in the 90th minute

Normal looking Football kits as opposed to padding, inserts, gangsta rap stylee shorts, helmets ffs....

Simple but effective club names like Albion, Athletic, Wanderers, United and dare I say Palace rather than pathetic macho attempts such as Pirates, Jets, Raiders, 49ers blahdi bladhi blah

i enjoy baseball for different reasons to football - beer in the seats, infact, beer without having to LEAVE your seat, the feeling a home run generates, the battle between the pitcher and the batsman, and ultimately the fact that whenever there is a fight EVERYONE charges onto the pitch and lays into each other. throw in the FANTASTIC entertainment on offer between innings and you have a winner

Yeah, but you're talking about pissy American corporate beer - exactly the same stuff that I can produce from my willy. For free.

that is very true alan - although it is the same beer that is on sale in every football ground in the country, if that counts for anything. which i guess it doesnt. plus popcorn, pizza, subway, nuts AND sushi while watching the game - its a food heaven

Think baseball's actually an alright sport, but there's only one REAL sport for me for the reasons listed above!

Footy fans also have heart and soul...we're not going to a Disneyfied musical as seems the case with much of the USA's offerings.

Draws are a great part of the uncertainty of footy.

(Some) punters who sound vaguely intelligent.

Passion, drama, shock, contentious decisions, the humour and the banter.

Proper shaped / sized ball.

A name that ACCURATELY describes the game! FOOTball.

pretty unfair on ice hockey - theres a shit load of passion in that. although i agree that the likes of basketball and american football are all about entertainment more than supporting your team, which makes them pretty SHIT

You're quite right, it doesn't count for anything. It's why I don't drink beer AT a football ground if I can help it.

Hopefully the bars at Falmer will remedy that.

its quick everything American is stop start stop start time out stop start all that. 90 minutes is 90 minutes (bar half time) how long does a NFL or NBA go on for bloody ages

So typically British-everything we do is best, everything North Americans do is shit when in fact it's simply the (unjustified) Brit superiority complex that is shit.

English football-f***ed up and inferior to even countries like Croatia

English Cricket-oh, pretty much the same as football

English Rugby-see above

English Athletics-see above.

I'd rather watch The Leafs and Blue Jays thanks.

that wasn't the point at all, but you've indeed helped to prove the point made originally

the sports we create are played seriously by a large amount of countries, especially football (admitadly cricket and rugby are empire based).....whereas no-one really gives a shit about playing sports made in north america do they?

can you imagine an american football world cup?

going to the skydome for a game, especially when the yankees are the visitors, is always FAR superiorentertainment to anything on offer at witdean. plus, i defy ANYONE to not support a team which has aaron hill in

When I've been to canada i've watched the vancouver canucks.

Ice hockey is quite fun, but since there is probably no away fans in the arena there is not a lot of song singing :(

you cant get that in ANY sport in america though, due to the country being so big, and teams being so far away from each other. its like football in spain, where you get virtually no away fans

i saw the canucks play the ducks in the play offs last year, and the passion in the place was immense. id say it easily rivals the passion that football fans over here have, although unfortunately for the nhl you only find that sort of interest in the north and canada - the fans mile in ottawa last year was AMAZING

This is in fact one of the things that makes baseball different and so great, because it isn't meaningless at all. A try is a try, a goal is a goal, a basket is a basket (though could be two points or three), but in baseball it is possible to score four runs with a single sweep of the bat.

And yes, you can do the same in cricket, but seven or so runs isn't normally enough to win a game.
