Reasons behind the releasing of players..

As I have said in a previous post, my dad knows Dick Knight very well and I managed to give a little info on players we are lookign to sign.

Some of the players, Sullivan and Loft in particularly were not released for footballing reasons. Slade is trying to eradicate the drinking culture within the club.

The main culprits have been Sullivan, Fraser, Loft, Elphick, Cox, Robinson, Whing. From those 7 players he has managed to remove 4 players and leave only the three best and most talented.

Hopefully the break away of th youth team drinking culture will run off on the performances next year.

All in all, Slade is trying to get a much smaller, professional squad.

Well my 'source' who was very near to John Sullivan (been waiting years to say that!) seemed to think all he did was train, sleep and drink water.

i cant imagine loft being a heavy drinker, wasnt he meant to be one of the fittest players in the squad? and sullivan was someone who always took things very seriously, even if it was just a kick about - cant see him being like that either

having seen fraser living it up on west street though, him being released for that sort of reason really wouldnt suprise me

I'm not so sure about that

Pay your money and take your choice but personally (and I have no inside information on this) I think he let the players go because in his eyes they weren't good enough and he knew the Bank of Bloom were about to open.

Maybe I was a little harsh including John in the list. The general feeling was that the players who had developed from the youth team had not really developed the correct attitude and felt the squad as a whole weren't united enough.

The four main people were Robinson, Cox, Elphick and Fraser. Fraser would not have been released if his off pitch attitude was better, and that is definate.

Last season we definately had a strong divide in personalities. Players such as Murray, Thomson, Dicker being very different to the "laddish" players like Fraser.

Lets not forget that footballers aren't angels, they will go out and that is fine. But we had players like Fraser who were going out getting pissed up to four nights a week. That is certainly not a professional attitude

I think it is known on here that John caused a split within the board. Dick rates him very highly and did not want to see him go. Bloom however wasn't convinced and Slade did not get to see him in first team action.
Slade already had a keeper lined up so it was better for John to be released that sit around at the Albion being 3rd in line.

There is definate interest from other league one clubs so he won't be worrying.

I must confess the only evidence I have of a 'Drinking culture' existing within the club is from certain posters on the Argus website but do people often see these players and ex-players out in town on the piss?

Fraser was released solely on that reason yes. He was a major influence on other players and not for the right reasons.

Loft may not have been a heavy drinker, but he was seen out the night before matches a few times this season. This is when he was not starting games but all the same, whether you are starting games or jsut on the bench, the attitude must be the same.

As for Sullivan, I have already stated that I was harsh to include him. His release was more for his benefit that anything else.

Yes, Millwal were interested in him but I don't think they've had any talks. I know another club interested are Brentford.

so any ideas on the players we are after ????

Yes i had already posted what I knew on the other thread.

The players include Paul Ifill, Jason Price, Jay Emannuel-Thomas (Arsenal youngster), Kerrea Gilbert (Arsenal youngster on loan at Leicester this year), Dominic Blizzard, Gary Dicker.

I also know Slade has a keeper lined up but I have no information on who it is

Your Dad seems to know Dick very well and Dick seems to have shared a lot of detail with him. Surprised Dick is such a blabber mouth - must really trust your Dad not to spread it around all over the place.

Do you mean "get a little info" or does Knight, Slade et al really use you as a scout?
