Can anyone help me out with this?

I'm just looking for a shop or an online retailer who sells PC's at a good price. We need a new one, but funds are low. What could I get for £300 these days?

Thanks.

I got a PC with the fasted spec AMD Athlon Dual Core processor (64 bit) with an ASUS motherboard, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD from Palicomp on ebay for £210.

Never had a non Intel PC, but I have to say it is fantastic. You buy them sans OS, but if you have an OS from a previous PC then there is no point buying another one.

£300 wont get you a laptop good enough to play Football Manager 2009. Need to up your budget, a little

:lolol:

You have obviously done your research on me! I would like a computer capable of running FM2009, but also capable of doing OTHER things such as t'internet and work stuff.

If I up the budget to £300-£400 will that do?

I use ebuyer - very very good value for money and uber good support. Following advice from NSC just bought a good Acer for around £300 including 19" flat screen. Well worth a look. Ordered Wednesday, box in the kids bedroom now.

Would avoid lappy at that price point though.

I can;t see any PCs on Dell site that support 8GB RAM, but I would imagine that you would be looking at at least double to get as high a spec bare bones PC from Dell

8GB of RAM? I've a box with 5 Virtual OS's on it and it runs comfortably on 6GB, why would you need 8GB?

It came with 8GB so I decided not to take 2GB out just to be like yours. And I was asked the question, "what would pay for a similar Dell one", and as Dell don't seem to do a unit that takes 8GB I couldn't provide the comparison asked for.

I've never been convinced by Dell. Cheap components in over-priced computers with no after service. You're paying for the brand (I know this from experience). Can't see why some people rave about them unless they have not experienced other kit and are dealing in a bit of cognitive dissonance?

What CPU would people reccommend? Is P4 too outdated now? Should I be looking at other options instead.

I'm mightily confused with all this computer business. I've never brought my own one before!

and it turned up and it works? you'd pay that for 8GB of RAM or the CPU alone.
