George Stephenson and Edmund Cartwright of Millers Utd put their combined tally of eleven goals past Socialist Rovers keeper Robert Owen in the 1799 Philanthropy Cup, breaking several long held records. Ball boy 'Little' Tommy Tickle (9), at the end of his 28 hour shift down the pit, was hit in the head by the 39 shots that didn't make the target. His father 'Big' Tommy Tickle was docked a month's wages.

Crossley once played a Premier League game for Nottingham Forest on a Saturday & for a team in the North Derbyshire Sunday League on the Sunday. On the orders of Brian Clough who's other son Simon was the manager! The Sunday League club were fined fifty quid for playing a ringer.
