May be something in this. On 7th feb this guy tweeted Youba Diarra would go on loan to New York from Salzburg, on 1st March he did.

Not as simple as that though is it. Describes himself as a Red Bull New York insider. It is possible he has heard something and what has he got to gain from making this up?

Attention.

Having a look through the account it seems like they just throw a few RB rumours out there and then delete them when they don’t pull through. Nothing to see here.

Five year contract? Hope not - we must have learnt our lesson from the financial damage of Locadia's four and a half year and Jahanbakhsh's five year deal not to hand out another five year deal to another hopeful punt! Hopefully the whole thing's just a lot of 'journalist' speculative bollox.

Huh? Five year contracts are par the course for players these days. Signing someone but saying ''we're only giving you a three year deal in case you're shit'' is hardly a vote of confidence is it? And what if they're good? Surely then they wouldn't extend as they know they'd get a better move, meaning we'd have to sell for less which undermines our entire model. A long contract is the only reason we've kept Potter as Spurs baulked at the compensation they'd have to pay us ffs!

Locadia and Jahanbakhsh were shit. Not everybody has five year deals anyway - Lallana, White and Lamptey for starters.

A 5 year deal means the €25 million fee is amortized on the accounts as a €5 million loss every year.

The shorter the contract the higher the annual hit on the accounts.

We have posters on here desperate to reduce the annual loss, even saying we won't sign anyone because of it.

But surely we have to be protecting these investments? None of the three players you've listed above had 20+ million fees forked out for them. No point in paying that only to lose them in three years for nothing.

Give them a better (and longer) contract of they turn out to be good, like we've done over the years with Dunk, White, Sanchez - and, I believe, Lamptey; we did that with GP too. If they're sh*t, the sooner they're off the books the better.

Messi, Lionel.

Free-agent after Barca decided not to renew.

Bit short, but could add something to our forward play. Worth a punt?

I think we can do better than scraping around for other teams cast-offs tbh.

Maybe that's why Caicedo stuck around to play against Argentina yesterday, even though injured? Tap him up?
