[Albion] REALISTIC signings for next season?

I can't even begin to speculate on what we'll end up needing-in terms of outgoings, it could be a huge summer (covid-finances aside) so we might just be plugging gaps once some deadwood/big names leave. Can't see Bissouma staying, White has some rumours flying about already, hopefully we'll keep Lamptey...plus we'll need to sort out the fringe players future in the forms of Tau, Izquierdo, Jahanbaksh, Andone, Duffy, Ryan, Propper etc. It's a big one.

RE strikers-Toney would be nice but unproven in this league, which I don't think we can afford to gamble on if he doesn't start off well. Can't see Josh King staying on at Everton and he could be handy, but pricey salary-wise. I don't have a great deal of hope in any of the players from sides likely to be relegated.

The conversation was about strikers we could sign that would play straight away.

Maybe to you. Not to me. This topic is about realistic signings.

Due to the value you get the South American market is one I think we’ll dip into again. There was a striker linked to us recently (‘Borre’, I think). I’m willing to bet we’ll get another player or two from that area of the world. If they’re not immediately first team ready so be it.

Mitro has hardly set the Prem alight in each of his seasons here. Toney? Maybe, he’s scored plenty in the Championship but so did Maupay.

I’m hopeful there’s another more untapped forward being lined up from the global or South American market. Moises is an example of the talent you can acquire at a far more affordable price. Or a Nunez type is another possibility. I’d be surprised if we go for Toney.

Toney is the obvious signing for me but much like last year, it'll go down to whether Brentford manage to get over the line (much like Watkins) as to whether Toney is sold. He fits our brief (young, English) and scores all types of goals. He's clearly good enough to make the step up to a club of our stature but if Brentford manage to get over the line this year, no chance of signing any of their players. I think we'll look to sign a striker to relieve the goalscoring pressure on Neal regardless.

If we are going really left field, I'd personally go for the comparatively cheap Arthur Cabral who has scored 31 goals in 55 games for Basel. A Brazil U23 international who reminds me a bit of Tomer Hemed in his link up play but super flair, I think he'd be a great foil for Neal.

I would take Mitrovic in a heartbeat. With the chances that we create you’d like to think he’d score a few

Lower league Dykes at Sunderland would be worth a punt in my opinion scores a lot of headers

From Europe, Alex Fernandes is scoring fairly regularly for mid table Cadiz

Fair enough. Just the OP was about replacements for Welbz.

Regarding Toney..............apparently the club weren't prepared to meet the 8-10 million price Peterborough wanted for him? Might just be paper talk, but the price for him now will be at least double the figures I've mentioned

Mitrovic, Maupay and Andone would actually be a critical mass of shithousery. Besides, I don’t think Mitrovic’s goals per chances record is particularly good, is it?

This. Welbeck will stay with us. Considering he was released by Watford we've done a fantastic job with his fitness and I assume both parties will want another season out of it.

I can't see us signing a "name" striker either. One day people on here might come round to the realisation that our current attacking options are what we'll be using for a while. We have two established strikers in Maupay and Welbeck who are good Premier League players and key to the way we create chances. We have a very good looking up and coming player in Zeqiri and have been nursing Andone back into the fold.

Connolly and/or Tau maybe loaned out if Andone is part of our plans but I don't see an incomer.

Luckily you are not in charge

We should sign a striker, a flank attacker, a goalkeeper and a central defender - with Tau, Andone, Jahanbakhsh, Izquierdo, Walton, Bissouma and maybe White and Burn, perhaps Connolly, moving on.

I reckon.

I thought that Karbownik was signed as the direct cover/competition for March?

Can’t see us being that active in the summer window to be honest. We will have quite a good squad when everyone is fit and January arrivals have properly bedded in.

I thought so too which is why I’ve been surprised by his lack of inclusion seeing as March and Lamptey are out for the season.

I think our squad is good enough but I maintain we need cover for Lamptey as he seems perpetually injured and, as good as Veltman is, we need specialist cover in that position. The rest of the squad is fine, we’re well stocked in the centre of defence with Clarke and Ostigard coming back, maybe Molumby can fill the hole left by the possible departure of Bis, but I’d still want another striker in if possible and one of Connolly or Zeqiri loaned out.

I feel we should have taken a gamble on Toney while still at Peterborough . Apparently he cost Brentford £5m with another 5m in add ons. Think of the money we have wasted on Ali J, Lucadia etc.

However, if Brentford fail to go up I am sure someone like Palace will buy him and offer him a better salary than we can.

Just need to look for someone similar in the EFL

I'm assuming you meat Wyke at Sunderland.

If so then I sincerely hope our club are looking for someone slightly better than a 28 year old who scored 9 goals in 51 games before this season.

It's easy in hindsight. At the time, would we have wanted to pay £10m for a L1 player?

You're right - but we do seem to have a history of taking a punt on overseas players.

Maybe our home scouting network is not so good - however if we want him now then we are looking £20m +

Agree with all these outs bar one but hopefully Connolly gets a loan. I’d add Ryan & Pröpper to your list. We might also lose younger players like today’s Coventry scorers Gyökeres & Østigård who won’t want to stay if they don’t make the 1st team.

I think Burn stays and Clarke replaces White giving the back line more balance with 2 left footers but Ryan is a gone.

Biss is 100% off after the hints the club has been letting out all season, we’ll have enough money (£80m+) to invest half of it in a promising attacker (Edouard for £15m) and an experienced left back desperate for the EPL (Tagliafico for £25m).

Squad will look something like this. Really slimmed down as Potter normally likes.

Keepers:

Sanchez
Steele
**new signing**

Centre Backs:

Dunk
Webster
Veltman
Clarke
Burn

Wing Backs:
March
New signing **Tagliafico***
Lamptey
Karbo

Central Playmakers:
Lallana
Groß
Alzate

Central Defensive Midfielders:
Molumby
Caicedo
Moder

Attacking Midfield:
Mac Allister
Trossard

Forwards:
Welbeck
Maupay
Zeqiri
New Signing **Edouard**

Paul Onuachu.

6'7 Nigerian who is only 26 and plays for Genk. He's scored 26 goals in 29 games and would probably command a similar price if not cheaper than someone like Toney. He fits all the things we are currently missing, he's incredibly tidy with the ball at his feet and can obviously win headers for fun. We also have previous in Belgium with most signings being good ones and Genk especially, being the same spot as Trossard. He looks like the real deal and hopefully the really big boys don't look at him.
