I do think we will sign a striker or two, but it’s not going to be the magic bullet £40/50m type of player some want.

We’ll identify targets from another lower league or from the South American market. Also remember we have some real talent coming through the academy/u18’s. Young Zak is breaking all kinds of records, will be interesting to see how we develop him next year.

I remain confident that assuming we stay up, we’ll be fine next season as well. Hopefully progressing further.

Too early for Zac and Cashman come to that.

I’m hoping Zeqiri step up, because we will need something better than Maupay.

Everton have spent the best part of £600m so far in fees under their current billionaire owner, with his even richer mate backing him. Clocking up £100m plus accounting losses each year (pre pandemic). Their fans are boasting about screwing all financial rules this summer, buying better players. Villa fans are doing the same.

The EPL rules are called Financial Sustainability.

Clubs have been given a brief respite from that, supposedly to cover no match-day income, but a few clubs are using it not to cover loss of some income, instead embarking on player spending sprees.

Many English football clubs in the top two tiers don’t give a monkeys about financial rules agreed amongst all clubs, they simply ignore them, or concoct contrived accounting transactions to mask the losses.

Which is why we are in our fourth straight season of looking nervously over our shoulder. We continue to bring a knife to a gunfight which, in view of our turbulent past, is fine by me. The club is playing a very long game and good on ‘em.

Bloom would have to pump in yet more money, £100m minimum and the club be bound to even more onerous player contracts.

Is that fair, does he have that in cash (possibly not, the club took out an overdraft to get through lockdown)?

We were never even in the discussion for Watkins as Villas wages blew us out the water.

Look, we’re all frustrated we didn’t get “the” striker we wanted in the past few windows. You’re acting like you’re the only person here to think this. I’m sure the club are frustrated as well given we’ve been clearly been chasing targets.

But I think there’s a degree of realism you need to accept. Given the recruitment have largely hit it out the park with every other position I now believe landing a top quality striker is one of the most complex and in demand positions in world football. It’s not FIFA. And as much as you want Tony Bloom to press a button to magically sign a £40m striker who will turn down every other club... a signing like that is not going to happen.

(B) We have wasted tens of millions on sh1t, e.g. Locadia, AJ...
