Or not so realistic. With five minutes to go, the scores could be:

Brighton v Stockport 0-0
Nervous Albion fail to score and Kuipers is called to make two crucial saves.

Bristol Rovers v Hartlepool 3-0
End of the season party against almost safe Hartlepool

Carlisle Utd v Millwall 3-0
Millwall rest a few players and Carlisle intimidate the play-off contenders

Crewe v Leicester 4-0
Leicester assured of going up play like we did at Shrewsbury a few seasons back

Leeds Utd v Northampton 0-0
Northampton get a draw in mid-week, so this match does not matter

All very desperate in the last few minutes, especially at Withdean!

I think Carlisle will win. I also think that Northampton will lose both of their remaining fixtures.

The only way we can really guaruntee safety is by winning.

I think we may lose to Stockport, but there will be a massive celebration when the results come through and both Crewe and Carlisle have drawn their respective games and we stay up.

I have been thinking about this non-stop since 4.45 pm yesterday.

I think that we will win next Saturday, so all the speculation might be pointless and we can, of course, lose and still stay up. What worries me is that Crewe might win say 2-0 ( I agree with Perseus about our last day defeat at Shrewsbury when we were already champions ), we lose 2-0 and Crewe would overtake us as goal difference will be level and they have scored more. Then we would be relying on Northampton and Carlisle both losing - assuming that Northampton lose at home to MK Dons on Tuesday.

Realistically, we need to see what that Northampton result is on Tuesday. If they lose and then lose to Leeds away on the last day, we could survive with a draw if Carlisle fail to beat Millwall ( but I think they will beat Millwall ).

There are so many permutations, it is a bit like the season we survived in the Championship by drawing at home to Ipswich. It looked like Crewe would be relegated and then Gillingham failed to get the right result and disappeared through the trap door !

Oh and by the way, Hartlepool are not entirely safe either.

I reiterate though that I think we will win, although tension will be high and I will probably have to quaff at least 4 pints of Stella in the Crown and Anchor beforehand as an insurance policy should the worst happen. If we survive, I will proceed to have probably about another 8 pints of strong lager in Haywards Heath that evening before falling ( over ) into the Rice and Spice for a meat phall !

If Northampton lose both of their games then we are guaranteed to be safe with a draw even if Carlisle do win as it would then relegate Northampton.

Nervous Albion fail to score and Kuipers is called to make two crucial saves.

Or how about the irony of Kuipers coming up for a 93rd minute corner and scoring to send Carlisle down.

Just another angle

Stockport in financial trouble .

Brighton more likely to buy one of their players at present on loan if they are in the first division next year.

2-0 Brighton

Assuming Northampton lose on Tuesday, which I think they will. All the teams in the relegation mix are at home with the exception of Northampton who travel to Leeds. I still cannot see them winning another game.

I think that we will be able to lose next week and still be safe. However I do not want the players to test that theory and think we will edge the game. Slade will have the players so up for it while Stockport will be more worried about where they are going to go on their holidays.

We need to score the first goal. Stockport will be dangerous but I think if we get that first goal they will soon lose interest and hopefully we can seal it up. Hate to say it but I think we might need to win.

And it will be brilliant news if Northampton lose to MK Dons. I would not like to be them if they have to go to Elland Road needing a result.

Leeds Utd v Northampton 2-0
Northampton lose 0-1 in mid-week, so who goes down with these results?

Master Plan: In the last five minutes, bring Sullivan on put Kuipers as an outfield player; will the referee insist on a change of jersey? How long will this take?
