There are some people on here who seem intent on wanting to make BHA a "local team for local people", purely it seems for the good of their collective egos - bad fan, fan, super fan, uber fan etc etc. There is also far too much "I'm a better fan than you because I live closer to the ground/live in a shed on the West Pier/am a STH/never missed a game for 75 years/like sitting in the rain/whatever.
You don't have to attend games to be a fan or a supporter or whatever else you want to call yourself of BHA. You just have to have the need for BHA to do well, to win games, and to progress up the league. I'm not even convinced that many fans actually go purely for the enjoyment. If it is the pure aesthetic you want, you are better watching Arsenil or Manure. However if you are hooked on the drug that is BHA, you have to live with the addiction and all the pain and gain that goes with it. Some are able to feed their addition by attending games, some don't or can't, but it doesn't mean that the non-attenders don't care.

I don't want to get into a good fan/bad fan debate but we are probably only selling 1,000 tickets per game at the moment. We need to start ramping up to Falmer.

Blame British Snail. If they didn't dig up the tracks on the Brighton line every weekend, I reckon a lot more London-based supporters would go. I've been a really crap fan for more than 40 years now. My last experience of Withdean? Blackpool game last year with Blackpool-supporting mate; train from Clapham Junction to Haywards Heath; hour and bit in a rusty old double-decker; stuffing by Blackpool; rusty double-decker back; arrived at HH to see the back end of the London train vanishing; 30 minute wait for next one ... groan, thud. Almost ready to try it again soon. But it's taken me a year to recover.

I'll accept that, for a variety of reasons, not every fan/supporter can attend matches. However, I'm seriously worried that if gates don't improve we won't have a team to support. How much longer can the club exist on such low attendances?
It seems as if many people have thought " Falmer has got the go-ahead , I'll wait until that's built before I attend games again". If home attendances don't improve Falmer may never get built.

Thankyou Cheshire Cat, your comments are spot on. I fall into the category of a 'lapsed' fan in terms of actually going to games at the Withdean, this doesn't mean i'm not a proper Albion fan. Full credit to all of those who do go to every home and away game, your passion and commitment is to be admired. But don't rubbish those of us that have been as passionate as you have over the years but for one reason or another don't go to the Withdean. God this sounds like a typical rant from an old git, but I put my time in with the Albion over the years, standing on the east terrace at the Goldstone on a wet Saturday afternoon freezing cold and trying to enjoy a luke warm, limp hotdog. Getting crushed in the middle of a 33,000 crowd or having most of the ground to yourself on a cold Wednesday night in January because you've taken the trouble to turn up and cheer on the reserves. The Albions result is the first one I look for wherever I am and I'm chuffed as f*** when we win and completely pissed off when we lose. And, no, I won't voice my opinion on the present team until I've seen them in action, how can I ?

EVERYONE has an entitlement to an opinion. Who gives a flying f*** whether they go to games or not? We're all fans of the club aren't we?

People will know who I'm talking about but there is someone who hardly goes to any games these days but during the 'bad' days 10 years ago, actually went to PRISON because of his passion for the club. According to the logic of some on here, that makes him a BAD fan, which is utter utter bollocks.

Well said mate. Come and join us for a game now and again. Nothing's changed from the East terrace days in the 80's! Still get wet. People still moan. But love the club dearly. You're just as far away. But the catering and toilets are a lot lot better! And you can't buy waggon wheels. Thankfully.....

You mentioning the east terrace toilets brought back some memories.The major improvement to the toilets in all the years I went to the Goldstone was a roof !
On cold days there was a permanent cloud of hot piss rising from the bogs before they put the roof on. Oh, and a small claim to fame, I had a piss in these bogs from hell right next to Jimmy Greaves. Him and Ian St John were doing their TV show from the Goldstone as we were playing Liverpool, cracking game, ended in a 2-2 draw. Greavesy was a lot shorter than I'd imagined, and, no, I didn't see how long he was in the shower !

I saw BHA draw 2 - 2 with Liverpool at home in 1958/59 season , I think it was, and at the time if you had been told one of those 2 teams would win the European Cup in the next few years and be a major force in European football you would have thought the persdon meant Brighton.
