I really looked froward to last nights game (and thought we did well) but listening to all the moaners on the radio on the way home as to why they dont go and and why we are so un-entertaining really pissed me off.

Its a litle pricey to go for some people I accept but to keep going on about the Withdean factor, no roof, boring football etc just does not cut it with me........

Out of interest if the ticket prices were doubled would you still go? Would you then consider that the tickets aren't value for money?

I just think perhaps some people have a lower threshold than you for considering something bad value - this may have something to do with the amount of money or time they have, but equally it could just be that they don't like wasting money.

This whole superfan thing is getting so muddied.

I am very very sad to see that the attendances are slipping especially as we seem to be playing quite well at the mo and the future is looking bright but NSC is precisely the WRONG place to start slagging off Brighton fans. It's not the hardcore that is missing it is your bog-standrad fly-by-nights and on NSC there are very few of them. NSC members mostly seem to be divided into three groups:

1) People who live new can go and do go.
2) People who live near who would like to go but can't for certain reasons
3) People who live too far away to go but wish they could.

To discriminate between these three groups as superfans or not is just ridiculous. The people who need to be targetted are not on NSC (in the main) so please stop all this nonsense because those of us in Groups 2 and 3 really wish we could be in Group 1 and that does not make us any less of fan.

To give an example of what I mean:

In the nineties there was no internet and there was no way to keep up with live scores or even sometimes get hold of English papers. Yet I still avidly followed Brighton's progress (I was in Tukey and Poland at the time), even to the point of getting a mate of mine who occasionally went to send me his reports by letter. Considering my circumstances I think that was pretty superfannish but according to those voices on here I could just as well be supporting Man Ure.

Show some respect please.

as a rule of thumb - the cost of living double prices every 10 years. That means that's about the same then.

Totally agree. Also I go to very few games - but I went last night. What does that make me? Part of the hardcore and thus allowed to have an opinion or one of the armchair fans (which is what I usually am) and thus worthless?

I have a season-ticket. I go to about 15 home games a season, about 10 away, and if I can't go to a game then I give my ticket to a family member or a friend. My seat is never empty. Brighton & Hove Albion is not good for my health. I've tried not caring and walking away. But I can't do it. I guess that makes me a fan.

Most people on this board are fans of the Albion to some degree. I respect the reasons for non-attendance of the stayaways, though I'm concerned at the falling attendances.

That statement is utter rubbish, You either support the team or not you don't stay away cos u don't like the manager, find another exscuse. The football is not always the best but if u and people like u came along you might see we are actually starting to look like a side, tuesday was good football we just lacked the final kill, And we just moved up to 6th for christ sakes, and what do you call a high profile manager ? someone who knows where the wallet is every time things get tough, Don't ever ask me to queue up with idiots like you for high profile game tickets ever again, cos me and the real fans attend no matter what.

Maybe some people just have higher priorities for their credit-crunched money than to shell out for two games at Withdean in the space of four days. At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious it's a helluvalot of money to pay for two full-priced tickets for one person, let alone anybody who would normally bring their kids etc

Folks pay there cash to go to Withdean to be entertained. The last couple of seasons have seen precious little entertainment, few goals and not a lot of winning football. This has lead to people like myself that only go a few times a season, turning up to sit amongst a load of moaning and whinging watching rubbish, therefore it's not enjoyable so we don't bother so much.

Recent weeks have seen several good results and if the team grow in confidence, keep winning games and playing good football, the word will get round and the casual supporters will return, hopefully to a Withdean with a much better atmosphere. Regular diehard fans may not like it but that's just the way it is.

Some may argue that you should support the team through thick and thin and that's highly commendable but for many people, getting to games is bloody pricey and can involve a long journey. Be patient, another few good results and the crowds will soon start to climb.

I'm not sure what you would define as 'full' but I reckon a fair interpretation would be that 80%+ of people (live far away).

We're all Albion fans who care or we wouldn't be posting (apart from the odd visitor of course!).

I accept there are very many fans that do not go for many reasons. As Bozza has commented family commitments impact as much as cost. That said I do go to all home games (unless on summer hols with the kids), and as many away games as the family can allow, however the attendances are very worrying.

For those of us lucky enough to live locally and be able to afford to go, there does in a way lie a responsibility to promote the Seagulls at the moment. I do feel that we all moan about the Withdean experience so much that its almost folklore amongst people that seeing the Seagulls is a waste of money, which frankly this season it isn't. They're playing some good football and with the right support both in terms of fans and squad strenthening in the transfer window we can reach the play offs.

I am making it my personal goal to get five additional people to the Withdean for the Carlisle game.

Let me correct one thing that Brett said and he wasn't that far away from us.
I've read that he heard a ripple of applause but half of H block was singing when the players came out and he stated that he didn't hear any singing at all last night.
There was singing (you may not describe it as that) started by DTG, Dover, Ned, Pornomagboy and myself. Ok it may have only been 20 or so of us but there was singing.

I have a choice to live where I want, and just because I live 300 miles away doesn't mean I'm a bad fan. I get to games when I'm home in Sussex, but as I'm earning very little it's hard to go to every game.
