Looks like our old pal Gus could be looking for work again pretty soon. Reports coming out of Span hes only in a job as the President of Betis cant find a replacement.

Shame.

He's really not been very good since screwing us royally over has he?

To be fair, he kept Sunderland up which he wasn't really expected to do. But frankly, as you rightly point out it has been pretty much downhill ever since. I reckon a lot of clubs would have serious doubts over taking him on.

I'm not really sure he has done that badly, really. Sunderland, same as it ever was for them, at the bottom stayed up, started the next season terribly, Gus gets sacked.

AEK Athens he did very well with until he fell out with the chairman mostly because Gus did not want to commit himself to stay.

Betis are doing as Betis do, 14th in La Liga is about right for them, they are the Spanish West Brom with added facist Ultras and a trigger happy chairman. 12 managerial changes since the start of 2010.

Gus has shot himself in the foot by gobbing off, as we would expect, but his actual results have at least been par for the clubs he has managed.

A fair summation.

Always amazed at the quality of knowledge on NSC about other teams and football generally.

He only joined them in May, and Betis are not a strong side. He'll need at least a season before we conclude whether it's been a success or not, surely?

Agreed. Sunderland are certainly no better since he went, Betis about par as you say and they are likely only that antsy at the moment as Seville are having a very good season.

Poyet’s created some mess at Real Betis. Ostracised two best young players at the club, and has now frozen out best striker in its history.

And, in terms of the here and now, Poyet’s failing to win games. No progression from Betis at start of season to the current point.

Win over Osasuna maybe bought Poyet more time. IMO, it’s Intl break now. Sack him and move on. This isn’t going to get better at Betis.

Going for the QPR job? ???

Would be a hell of a deal for the journalists, when interviewing him, if they quote his full name.
He's picking up a good knowledge of languages, Sussex, Maccam and Spanish!!

Agreed it didn't end well but we shouldn't forget that we were in the bottom half of league 1 when he joined and we were in ok shape at 3rd in the Championship when he screwed us over.

Love him or loathe him, Gus played an interesting part in our history - most of it good.

Funny how things turn out though - who could have imagined just how good things are now under CH?
