I am pretty ambivolent towards Pompey, in a way I am happy to see them doing better than Saints, their fans are far less objectionable in my experience.

I quite like Reading, if only because of Sidwell (best player I've seen at the Albion probably, although BZ might have something to say about that!) and Coppell (best manager i've seen at the Albion, although Micky Adams might have something to say about that!)

I can't understand all of the hostility towards Reading. So they had a shit ground and crowds at Elm Park until Mad Jet Ski pumped squillions into the club and built them a new stadium.

Be envious and use them as inspiration more than hate them because once Falmer is built and the crowds start returning to the Albion we'll be in an identical situation. A couple of generations of fans finally turning up once all of the hard work has been done and the dross is a distant memory. We'll be no different I'm sad to say-with our army of new plastic Albion fans.

And let's be honest-it's great to see some new upstarts gate-crashing the Premiershite party.

Elm Park was probably the worst and most unfriendly place I have ever watched football in my whole life, we were treated like scum by the local police, their fans subjected us to vile and homophobic abuse for the entire 90 minutes. Explain to me why I should have anything other than dislike for them, it is not easy, is it!

Did anyone hear them (Reading) chanting "we support our local team"......?
Yer, you do NOW :nono:

Well, let's face it Seagulls, we would all like to be a Reading right now. Fancy stadium of luxury, fans that stayed away when they were shite all clamouring to see top-flight footy. Ambitious manager doing well, seems to know the right things to do, little ego, not apt to overblown attention whoring Morinho style.
Smart tactically, and good at spotting good players without spending the earth.

And Arsenal are great and wonderful because.......? Not even remotely related to the English side that spawned them, a manager that can't accept losing, loads of fans from all over who would probably support anyone wearing red that are doing that well and manure are a long way to go to home games, one English player on the field, german goallie who threatens anyone who tries to beat him, fairly ...

Is this the reason for Reading's heavy defeat?

You obviously never visited the old Den.In fact I can think of plenty of grounds more inhospitable than Elm Park.

sams dad, you are right I never went to the old den and I struggle to think of anywhere out of the 50 or so different grounds where I have seen the Albion play that can compare. I went to Ninian Park full of trepidation the season before last, given the events a couple of seasons back, but even that was nowhere near as bad as I had expected.

Not many may remember but when we played our first home game in the old Div 1 we had Arsenal. We played really well that day but Frank Stapleton got a hattrick and they mugged us.

With this in mind I relayed the story to my eldest lad yesterday and said in no uncertain words that a history similar repetition of 4-0 was on the cards, which at 9 in the morning was quite clairvoyant? Looked at the betting at midday yesterday and 33-1 was available with Betfair for the Arse to win 4-0.

Me a mug?
