Reading and Real Mallorca have offered contracts to Lopez

Last season we finished 4th in the Championship, playing good attractive football, with some 'cheap' imports.

There must be at least 30 clubs, in this country alone casting an eye over our players and their contract situation.

These threads seem pretty pointless to me, and I see absolutely no point getting het up about it.

Precisely. And we, in turn, are casting our eyes at other players.

But I will defend to the death the right of people to post completely unfounded transfer rumours. It's what British summertime on NSC was made for.

Not sure why we have only offered a year to Dave anyway, especially as TB has said the Gus situation does not affect transfer dealings etc. But Reading? If Dave is in it for the money then that's that. If not, then he won't go there. If the manager issue is such a big deal it's more likely that he was hoping for a change - it's hardly been a secret that Gus was likely to go. And I doubt Dave knows an awful lot about Adkins and Crosby! Cautiously optimistic that the fact that he enjoyed his year here and the safety in numbers provided by the presence of Calde and co will win the day.

F8ck off Reading always over-paying our players. Norwich too can do one.

At least we've still got palarse to offload our cast offs and rejects to (not fussed if they do well there or not if they're the only one's who'll take them and better yet ridiculously over pay in every case for players we don't want).

I don't know about 30 clubs, try one club (Reading). If they signed up Bridge, Spanish and Upson I'd make them a shoe-in for promotion, possibly at our expense. With our manager position sorted I believe Spanish and Upson would be out there now with the rest of the lads training for next season.

If Dave signs for Reading it will be humiliating. If we are to achieve anything nexy season he must stay.

Statements put out by the club have suggested that the management issue has not affected player contracts and transfer dealings. Clearly, we need to re-sign Spanish Dave, I assume the club think that way too and, with a £500,000 profit on the Dobbie deal burning a hole, we can afford to make a decent offer.

I just hope he sticks around until he knows who the next permanent manager will be. It would be a shame to see him leave just days before OGJ signs.

It might not affect how the club are doing things but OBVIOUSLY it's going to affect how the player perceives the situation. If Gus was still manager I reckon El Abd and Dave would've signed on again by now. A guess, I know, but an educated one.

Different team, different club, different manager.
They are all class, which we know.
But they are all, well Bridge and Upson at least, looking to sign their last 'proper' contracts.
As with all footballers they are one injury away from the end.

Reading can do what they damn well please, it has no bearing on us, until they start poaching the players that are under contract.

Dave Matt and Wayne are not Brighton players.

The reality is that money talks and I'm sure Spanish and Upson would both re-sign regardless of the manager situation if the money was right. You wonder what the price gap is between signing now and signing only once the manager is known.

I'm not so sure if Egyptian international El Abd would have blindly signed a one year deal.
I wouldn't have done, in his situation.

That's not to say I wouldn't eventually, but I'd certainly see how many years were being offered elsewhere.

I feel sorry for AEA right now. He's been a loyal servant but he's in need of first team football to stand any chance of making the Egypt squad for the World Cup. He's at that age where his next move is the key one of his career, then we get this Gus situation.

Who said anything about it being 1 year?

You were doing well, until the 'waiting 3 weeks for a manager' thing.

Agreed. Why wouldn't he wait 3 weeks? He could end up with a Spanish manager (OGJ) or jump ship and be managed by a physio! Of course, he may fancy returning to Spain.

... and a lot better to be discussing transfers in or out than club versus Gus!
