Good post. If only the 'chapters' weren't so short each time though. Potter's would constitute a slim novel, Caicedo's and Ali Mac's a short story, Cucurella's a pamphlet...

Maybe see it as collection of short storys and by the time were ready for the antology weve slain the dragon and got the girl in one of them

But RDZ is a deliberate man. Look how he exited he last club. Stayed put till all the players were safe.

I don't think he is eyeing up other clubs as such. If I think about it, which club would it be, even? As a 'step up' to trophies? Bayern Munich? Barcelona? I doubt either would consider him. Liverpool? Ditto.

He needs to win something. It isn't out of the realms of possibility we could win a cup. If he's properly ambitious he'd want a top job.

Otherwise it really does have West Ham and Everton written all over it. The lofty hights of Sunderland may have been enough for Poyet. But RDZ is a different beast. I think. Which I why I think he will stay.

If not, we will simply upgrade and move on. Exciting times.

He had a bunch of flair players in a very average team. On the one hand he had Jay-Jay Okocha and Youri Djourkaeff, on the other he was relying on long throws from Anthony Barness for chance creation.

These driven managers start to believe there own hype when there head gets turned there's only one outcome. They are not then fully focused on the job at hand no matter how much he says he is.

You’re right about there being nine or more clubs with bigger wallets though so that’s always going to be the Brighton conundrum. If the coach does well he’ll get better offers and if he doesn’t, we risk relegation.

It’s the same all the way down football though. We took Potter off Swansea and have landed bargain players from South America and the Nordics.

I also think he is entirely focused this season. He played a different style yesterday and didn’t go man for man when out of possession and he had a plan for attacking Liverpool down their right hand side. We caused them some real problems in the first half.
He may well go at the end of the season but what he is saying is that he’d like to see the club’s plan and then make a decision. That seems entirely reasonable to me, albeit there is the fact that he is contracted for another two seasons so another club would need to meet our release clause.
Part of that plan, I would expect, is that we don’t sell any of our key players and add a defensive midfielder and right sided attacker.
If we did that and then he went I’d be a bit miffed.
We will make sales at the end of this season. Deniz will likely go as will the lad at Rangers ( name escapes me) plus a few others. Alzate, Leonard. I think we’ll probably make sales of about £20m and I’d like to think that we’ll bring in Reiss Nelson from Arsenal ( to help them fund Gibbs-White from Forest) and a proper defensive midfielder, as I don’t think that is Baleba’s position. Possibly also another defender, and sell Webster. Lallana will retire and we may let Milner go, especially if Leeds are promoted and they want him.
If we could keep our key players and add Nelson and a midfielder then I think we’d have a chance of keeping Roberto.

The most eye-catching part of Baleba's game currently is his (rapid) ball-carrying in 20 to 40 yards bursts upfield. He's strong and fast. It will be interesting to see how RdZ moulds his game. Will he optimise that facet or will he coach it out of him and use him as a more conventional pivot?

First step to get to that next level is to find people who are true professionals who keep internal stuff internal and dont fill our club with the sort of negativity making us talk about him when we could be talking football. Doleful and dull Italian sitting with his arms crossed saying were going to lose and our players are too bad and making all kinds of excuses while telling us we will always love him whatever happens next. You seem like a driven ambitious guy what do you really see in this manager?

How many owners have chased unrealistic ambitions and all they found was ruin….I just cannot imagine TB,following that treacherous path. RZ has been a breath of fresh air during his time,however we must not forget Potters part in our successful season last year.Another issue is RZs grasp of the English language,that sometimes hinders his thoughts.In any case ,I think he has to understand BHA,if he doesn’t then we will collect the buy out clause…..

I’m not totally convinced by his honesty but he was certainly open and talkative yet again post-match. And all he has done with this further uttering is add more noise, distraction and speculation to an already difficult end to the season. Shut the f*** up Roberto!

I would prefer it if he said nothing but he can't really win. The press keep asking him the same questions and keep talking about him for the Liverpool/Bayern/Barca/whoever job.

If he says absolutely nothing people will complain.

If he says something people will complain.

If he goes full Poyet and touts himself for every available 'bigger' job people will complain.

What he's said consistently is that his ambitions and the club's ambitions need to align. He hasn't said anything about any of the jobs the press keep pushing on him. In the guardian article where the headline makes it looks like he's got crisis meetings lined up what he actually says is:

To work next season at Brighton, I don’t need to extend. At the moment, we finished the discussion about contracts but not because I have decided yet to leave.

My focus is on Brighton this season and the next season but before we start the next season I would like to speak and listen to the plan for the team – it is a serious thing. I want to know the target and what we are playing for. I have already spoken to Tony [Bloom, the owner] and in the future we will talk again about the plan for next season and then we will find a solution but both the club and myself need to be happy.”

That's it. In terms of his future that's pretty much all he's been saying for months.

In my opinion the only thing extra he could say is....now stop asking me the same shit questions!

I head an RDZ interview clip an hour ago. He said something along the likes of "I am here this season. I am here next season. In the summer I will discuss with the chairman his expectations". No threats. No promises.
