Poor bugger never stood a chance this season. World class midfield flogged off from under him in the Summer and a long and unrelenting injury list has put paid to any real progress. Europa League showing was miraculous under the curcumstances, as is the somewhat flattering league position
Out of interest, how many clubs in world football do you think wouldn’t have sold two players who were desperate to leave for a combined fee of up to £170 million.

I’d be really interested to hear if you think it might be more than two.

It’s not so much the results and league position. I think most of us accept that we’ve had injuries to key players and having the extra 8 Europa fixtures will make things harder. Main issue, for me anyway, is the general demeanour and criticism of the transfer policy.

Absolutely this. If he doesn’t want to be here then he’s no good to us. Tactically we are a shambles lately and that falls all on him not the players injuries or not we should be setting up to try and get something from games. Appalling today.

Fair point. If De Zerbi isn't fully, or at least sufficiently, onboard he should go, but I'm not convinced that mountains are being made out of molehills in that regard.

Thank you Roberto has said that all season "I cant do a decent job without two world class midfielders". I dont feel sorry for him I feel we need someone who is can do more with less which is what our club is all about

We now have a frightening combination.

No big chances created in the last two games and making nearly double figures in mistakes that leads to big chances at the other end.

Our defending for set pieces, like the one in the 2nd minute, what was that??

So people think us making £120m is amazing.

But they think we lack the squad depth to compete at the moment.

Yet. they want De Zerbi out because he dares to suggest the transfer policy might have f***ed him over.

Crazy.

De Zerbi's right, the squad depth's shite.
Weve more first team players than City and Liverpool. Should we buy another 3 just because they all keep getting injured at Robertos training sessions?

City put Phil f***ing Foden on the bench today 3 days after scoring a hat trick. What an absolutely batshit comparison. Liverpool have been crippled by injuries all season in Klopp's training sessions but have the squad to deal with it.

We need to sack off Lallana, Lamptey, Milner and get some proper quality in the squad that can be relied on to do something other than hog the treatment table. We can just about carry Welbeck getting through 70 mins a week if we are lucky, we definitely can't carry 3 others doing the same and having to rely on kids.

As I said we´ve got more players in our squad than Liverpool or City. You mentioned squad depth and we have one of the biggest in the league. We have 27 first team players how many should we have do you think?

What are you blithering on about? If your definition of depth is a load of old crocks who are good behind the scenes, and a few kids who are making up the numbers because we haven't got the quality in the squad to loan them out, then yes, we have great squad depth and go deeper than Liverpool or City.

Good grief.

Just to flip this, how many clubs in world football would have sold £170m worth of central midfielders, and replaced them with one free transfer signing that didn't work out and got loaned out in January, and one 19 year old who had played less than 25 games in his career?

RDZ on bbc "can't compete without top players ".
Massive frustrating game today. Went to Liverpool last week, great individual performances, but nothing in the last 3rd, apart from DW.
OK we can learn from that. Really looking forward to today.
Line up. No J Pedro, Facundo, Fati (again, no apologies! Start him). Come on at 63 mins ! Really!
IMO This squad is getting over managed.
Anyway, kebab was fairly decent tonight back In St Leonards.

It’s a 13th place centre midfield, Lamptey isn’t a top drawer right back, once Ferguson went on a goal drought our fate upfront was sealed. Onana and Gomez of car crash Everton would walk into our CM, Wolves have got a proper CM. Lallana, Milner, Gilmour and Gross must be amongst the slowest players in top leagues, Gross the only star but he needs pace next to him.

We’ve found the level commensurate to our budget.

Move over Julio Enciso, our accounts are going to win the Puskas award this year

Clearly told to stop throwing the owner under the bus after games so now throwing the players under it instead everything to deflect any blame or criticism. Plenty still buying it lets see what it looks like in a few weeks. Not sure De Zerbi will last the season

We have one of the lowest wage budgets in the league, he’s taken us to the last 16 of the Europa League, sold his starting midfield who were the nucleus of his team, lost his starting left and right wingers in March and Mitoma, had serious injuries to Enciso, Milner, Estupinan, Gilmour, Hinshelwood as well as long layoffs for Veltman, Pedro, Fati, this is before you consider the perma-crocks like Webster, Lallana, Lamptey and Igor. How much more can you realistically expect from this squad?
By no means an I enjoying the way this season has completely fizzled out, but a dose of reality is required.

Precisely, that is what RDZ himself should have recognized, and dealt with the management of the team accordingly at the beginning of the season. Instead, we have had to hear his endless whining/vailed threats for months. To publicly moan at this stage of the season in his current position that "we can't compete without top players" is the stupidest, unfathomable excuse, imo, unless he has some ulterior motives. Such public remarks must be demoralizing for the players who train hard every day and play on the pitch every week.
