Not saying there isn't a heart discrepancy, Zurich admitted there is, they don't believe it's a issue, but strange we've heard nothing of work permit application.

Mainly as it never got there. Has to pass a medical first. Didn't. Zurich - nor the player himself - would allow us to say what we are if it wasn't accurate.

A club paying £275k might overlook it and take the chance with giving surgery to put it right. A club paying 10+ million wouldn't.

Something seems very fishy on this one to me. No news of the work permit hearing and then all of a sudden it's a medical issue. I suspect he didn't get clearance and it's less embarrassing for the club to claim a medical problem.

The work permit clearance was always going to be finely balanced. Maybe it would have gone to appeal and with a finely balanced medical ( certainly not clear cut according to statement by FC Zurich as it was an issue previously picked up by them) looks like we have pulled the plug / got cold feet as we want certainty at this stage of the window. Think we would have wanted this one to have been proceeding under the radar if we could, but once out in the open, was always going to be a big risk.

Sorry. Just realised I'm 5 hours behind everyone else as I hadn't refreshed the thread so carry on. Well, I have had 5 pints. But still

FFS.

Well, we need strikers and we haven't signed any so - yes! Sometimes you have to pay the asking price.
Well we managed to agree the deal for Dwamena using our policy, it's only the medical that stopped this deal.

It must exist as FC Zurich have stated that 'the issue' is within normal limits according to their medical.

I believe that he was transferred in January from an Austrian club with the same owners as Zurich, so I guess that the medical was considered a formality. It wasn't for us though.

Thankfully the medical guys were on the ball. It gives the guy a chance to get himself looked at but has saved us 10m. Hopefully another target has been identified

Shame. I know that (just as with all our signings this summer) I'd never heard of him so had no idea if he'd turn out to be any good or not, but I had a sort of hopeful feeling about this one. I just hope now that this Izquierdo bloke turns out to be f**king brilliant!

I'm being very careful and tactful here.
Given the recent issues with Connor Goldson having a heart condition, which thankfully was diagnosed by the club's routine screening.
Could Raphael Dwamena have had a similar issue which was picked up during his medical.
I'm only summising mind you.

Aye.

Shame for all concerned.

Exactly. This screws us and the player over in the medium term and in the context of football. But we all know a young man with a heart murmur can be a tragic incident in waiting. Well done to our staff and all the best to the player.
