Very sad situation but confirms that we made the sensible decision, hope he makes a career outside of football.

Thats terrible, Does make you wonder how he was allowed to continue to play after it was picked up by our medical team.

He's had multiple incidents since the medical with us. Doctors recommended he retire while he was out on loan with Zaragoza from Levante but he continued playing after having an ICD fitted. He moved to Vejle in Denmark but was removed from all footballing activities after just 5 games because of concerns over his heart and a few weeks later the club confirmed he would never play for them again due to his medical condition. This didn't stop his current club FC Blau-Weiß Linz signing him in June this year.

With all that is known about his heart condition he cannot continue playing, any club allowing him to continue playing or offering him a playing contract could potentially have blood on their hands.

Due to him having an ICD, he probably won’t die from a cardiac arrest. However, it is really unpleasant to have the shocks from one. Depending on his diagnosis,he may be able to have an operation to , at least mitigate the frequency of his episodes.Having said that, it does appear that his playing days are over.

Awful. And absolute insanity that anyone allowed this guy to keep playing. Horrendous.

Absolutely this. Could only find a team in Albania in the end it seems. We'll have some of the best medical staff and equipment available in the world, purely because of the amount of money in the sport, and yet others 'know better'.

At least Mewpu has not gone against medical advice and gone off to the arse end of the world to carry on playing.

Yes playing football might be your dream, but is it worth your life?

In the field
I remember that our medical team strongly recommended that he retired at the time of the medical with us. I seem to recall too that Zurich owner was furious and subsequently said that their own medical team had picked up the same issue, but it would have no impact on his career.

So sad all round. RIP.

Must admit I was worried about Mwepu when he did that weird religious ceremony to cure him. Hopefully he doesn't take that too seriously
