I think that as a compassionate society, we, (the taxpayer, through aour agent, the government), should provide a safety net for those that fall through the cracks, and are in need of support.

That support should be focussed on shelter, warmth and food. Nobody should starve or die from exposure.

Workhouse..Its the way forward! 1 square a day, your own sack to sleep on and all the diptheria you can handle!

I've always seen myself as a Mr.Bumble type with a big Hat and moustache doling out the gruel to the workshy!

Come on Brown, no more plasma tellies and micro chips for the plebs!

Workhouse!

Well, I think there were some underlying problems with the workhouse model.:lolol:

This, I guess is the problem.
Where do you draw the line.
Somewhere between workhouse and 7 bedroom mansion I would hope.

It would be interesting to know what the reasons are for spending taxpayer money on moving this family to a bigger house.
Back in the seventies, when I was a kid, we lived in an area of small, 3 bedroom terraced houses.
It wasn't uncommon to have families of 5+ kids living in them.

I posted this thread and have now had time to consider this objectively.

I can live with the fact that the family needs additional bedroom space so have no problem, per se, with them moving into this 7 bedroom house. However the
'dad' cannot expect to be able to sit on his arse all day watching Trisha and procreating more kids. If he cannot get a job with the working benefits that go with it, then he must do FULL TIME COMMUNITY WORK (now Government policy I think).

Oh, and sterilise her of course :D

Cant we just agree to house them in a massive greenhouse so we can all point at them?

We live in a more enlightened worls now.

As one of a family of 10, in an age when that was not unusual (nor was it the biggest), we had to settle for the sqallor and depredation of a 3 bedroomed house.

If only we could have had a bedroom each, maybe looking over Dyke Road Avenue....

I feel i have failed my kids as they are all working, even those with kids.
