Rangers alternative proposals are laughable!

Just seen this on SSN. Basically they're not happy about the new proposals in the reforms of Scottish Football as it will mean they will remain in the bottom tier so here are the solutions (and yes these are OFFICIAL proposals):

1) Move to the English Premier League

2) Join the Football League

3) Buy out a club. Remember they tried buying out Bury?!

4) This is my favourite: Buy an MLS franchise but still play home games in Scotland

5) Super League - set up of the best of the best apparently

6) North Atlantic league / Berlingua (however you spell it)

All in all a massive joke set of proposals, the only sensible one is joining the Football League, yet that will not happen at all

Thoughts?!

Some sort of pan north European league would be the best of a bad bunch. It doesn't seem fair that any club has a glass ceiling of their own small league. However, I have far more sympathy with the likes of Ajax, Brondby and Anderlecht that the Old Firm who have ruined Scottish football's competitiveness by appealing to sectarian bigots.

Unless I'm misunderstanding things...

As things stand, Rangers will get promoted (to division 3 of 4) and will be 2 more promotions away from the top division.

If the proposed changes are made, Rangers will be in division 3 of 3, and will still be 2 promotions away from the top division.

If Rangers were still top of the SPL they would be behind this re structure and wouldn't give a shit about the teams in the 3rd Div missing out on promotion this season.

f*** the Tax dodgers I say.

How does number 5 involve Rangers?

The problem in Scotland isn't Rangers or Celtic, but the fact there are simply too many teams.

Look at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, created by a merger of Caledonian and Inverness Thistle. In 18 years they've gone from Highland League to 2nd place in the SPL, with many notable scalps taken along the way.

That is correct but they are moaning at the fact they remain in the bottom tier of Scottish football regardless.

I have no idea!! But they still see it as an alternative

glad im not the only one. I reckon theres another angle to it, the structure would remove the old block vote that Celtic/Rangers had. if/when they get back to the top teir they wouldnt have the power and lions share of TV money they used to enjoy. Celtic dont need to complain at this point and see how it pans out, but i dont think they would actually be that happy.

of the options, the trouble is that 3 and 4 arent laughable. the FA set a precedent with Wimbledon that could be followed, and 4 isnt really that daft at all as thats how the US systems work (though i suppose that would exclude them from ever playing in Europe again?)

It's interesting that in that list of alternatives the Celtic League is not there although it works really well in Rugby Union. Obviously, Cardiff and Swansea are in a good place so wouldn't want to switch unless they had to if the rules were changed.

I could envisage an 18-strong league with 5 Irish sides, 3 Welsh and 10 Scottish could attractive investment could be viable and help the national sides. This would still leave spare time for a winter break and domestic cup competitions.

They are where they are because they broke rules and suffered the consequences. Instead of whining about how they deserve to be playing with the big boys they should man up, take thier medicine and work thier nuts off to get back to the top flight (in Scottish terms).

That or buy up Portsmouth.

He has a point there. The timing of the restructure is rather problematic for all chasing promotion at the bottom.

Their solutions are all pipe dreams. The FA and Football League would never allow any of the solutions that would affect England. Besides which, if rangers wanted in so would Celtic.

Spot on there chief. They're just having a flounce because "little team" problems are affecting them now. You absolutely right that if Montrose were in the same situation that they would not give a flying you-know-what. If they'd played their cards right, it would all be happening beneath them and they'd likely be all for it.

Besides, as Bozza says, it makes no difference!!!

Also, why would Rangers be in a Super League?

Should have joined the football league from the bottom tier last season to p1ss off celtic.

Took AFC about 8-9 years to get to league 2.
