So, to anyone else who is trying to get tickets, where do you go from here?
I'm very confident that, come 20-30 minutes to kick-off, it'll be possible to get tickets near the grounds at not that much above face value - although NOT for England games. I'm going to check with my uncle who's a copper in Cologne that we'll be OK with tickets which were originally in somebody else's name and I'll see what he says.

In any case, the entertainment being laid on outside the actual stadia looks so superb in this world cup that it's worth trying to get in anyway, I'd say. That is until the hoolies turn up and ruin everything - in that event, the big screens will, I imagine, sadly be turned off pretty quickly.

The only alternatives are a) to persist with that website (although my faith is not being kept at the moment) or b) try the online touts who are charging 3-4 times list price for non-England games.

Will their be beer at the Tunisia v Saudi game?
In Munich? The place runs on it. I think I'm right in saying that this place: http://www.hofbraeuhaus.de/en/index_en.html is the biggest pub in the world, it certainly was once.

You can normally happily booze away at Bundesliga games - they even have people with vat rucksacks selling draft beer at people's seats - but I'm not sure that'll apply in the world cup.

Names have been put on tickets for several tournaments now.

Proper checks never happen - it's an impossibility with so many people.

There might be a few random checks, but it will be a token effort for the media.

Also, some tickets (certainly complimentary ones) have the same 'group leader' name on multiple tickets, which makes name checks impossible.

And, yes, you'll easily be able to get tickets for non-England/Germany games.

Said it before and say it again: only the English (and hosts) go to games as neutrals at major tournaments.

It was quite hard getting rid of spare tickets at Euro 2004. One guy we met in Portugal had been to 8 games in 9 days - and didn't pay more than 20 Euros for any ticket.

Plenty of tickets were going spare, even for 'big' games like Italy v Sweden.

Excellent. Will you let me know the result of the conversation with your uncle? Cheers, MoH:clap:
Na klar, as they say over there.

Although - please don't take my/his word as gospel for every world cup game. He'll know the lowdown on Cologne inside out and that might apply to other games in Northrhine Westphalia but, judging by Wozza's experience, it won't be much of an issue anyway.

FACT: my uncle often got rat-arsed with trainee Met coppers at Hendon drinking yards of ale. The German coppers drank the Brits under the table - the only Brit who managed to drink it in one go promptly PUKED so much back into the yard of ale that he FILLED it up again.

I've been trying for ages to get tickets for any game via the fifa website and no luck. However, similarly to other post on here, one of my mates (who I am going to world cup with this year) went to Euro 2004 and got in to Holland V Czech for 30 Euros with a touted ticket, a couple of other games with touted tickets at 20 Euros and said that there were loads of tickets floating about. Let's hope it's the same - fingers crossed and good luck to everyone going :bounce:
