When suffering with depression can you be held accountable for your actions?

When it happens time and time again, if you don't put something in place to prevent yourself from doing it (if you're not in control of your actions) are you culpable?
i.e. as another poster said getting rid of the car.

I do feel for Clarke Carlisle, it is a terrible illness. And perhaps, at the time, he wasn't properly in control of his actions. However at some point he has to do the hard work and put things in place that will stop himself from behaving in these destructive manners. Understanding himself enough to know the signs when he is spiraling out of control and seek help, however much he doesn't want it.

Life is so easy for some, which obviously makes them so judgemental. Mental illness is just one of many issues that people struggle to control drug addicts, people with weight issues, alcoholics, people with compulsive disorders, people with anger issues to name a few, if only if it was just a simple as switching a switch to pull yourself out of it. Many problems are destructive by nature and the people who suffer can not always see the signs or pull themselves back from the edge.

He needs to get out of the public eye so everyone can stop judging him. It didn't help that everyone just assumed he was rehabilitated simply because he was presenting a football show and had some pointless head role in football somewhere.

Sad really.

I haven't seen the original comments on Twitter however i would wonder if, even with this statement, that Ralf Littles comments shouldn't have happened in public.

Not because if anything to do with the pair or what they may or may not have done but because if Clarke Carlisle's story persuedes people with similar issue to seek help from experts or even friends and family, could negative comments towards someone being open actively discourage others from seeking the help they may need or benefit from?

It's good that Ralf Little has released this statement, but will those suffering who saw the original comments on twitter see these too?

Taking the depression aspect to one side completely without any comment on that subject; the one thing that has always got my goat when people mention Clarke Carlisle is when they go on about his bloody IQ & how intelligent he is. He's been on Countdown you know!

It's those glasses he wears. They'd make Wayne Rooney look sophisticated.

Ralf little clearly has little regard towards mental health when he is questioning the decision making of a man suffering from mental illness.

It's like not being able to understand why an alcoholic keeps missing their rent and instead just assume they are being selfish.
Difficult to overlook his selfishness, I do agree. That said, how ill are you that you throw yourself in front of a truck? When your brain goes into meltdown, and you lose the very basic requirement of nature, the will to survive. How do any of us know how we would cope....sad in so many ways.

Haven't got much time for Clarke Carlisle after witnessing his cowardly assault on Leon ( he's alright really ) Knight at Loftus Road in 2003 .

What happened ?

Albion attack towards the away fans , Knight " stumbles " in the box , the attack breaks down and the ball is cleared upfield .

As Knight slowly picks himself up of the deck , Carlisle jogs over and elbows Knight in the head . Not just a gentle dig but a deliberate attempt to cause serious injury .

This was missed by all the players except the QPR keeper who looked genuinely shocked and the away fans behind the goal who were incensed .

Eventually the linesman flags to attract the attention of the referee . After consulting with his linesman the referee jogs over to Knight to show him a yellow card .

Was that the LDV Vans trophy game, in the black away kit?

How many people have you seen, that as soon as they see themselves facing jail, their lawyer dreams up all these far fetched mitigating circumstances in a bid to avoid jail.

Indeed you only need to read another thread on this board and you see the Harry Redknapp claim that he resigned from QPR to have knee surgery. Indeed many jumped in and claimed there were other reasons for his resignation. Rightly or wrongly we all judge whether we are armed with the facts or not.

So to Clarke Carlisle - Yes he needs help but probably for alcoholism and drugs as well as his mental health issues; however, if he gets away with drink driving again without any retribution he will continue to think he can manipulate the system and if he does then someone else will end up dying at his hands. For that reason he needs to be punished by a jail sentence to run concurrently with the help for alcoholism and his mental health issues.

Ralf Little on the other hand in my opinion is a nasty piece of work. All he was doing was settling old scores and that is clear from the early paragraphs of his post. It was not his place to divulge all of that to the world. What goes around comes around as they say and his time will come on another issue.

The punishment of Clarke Carlisle should be carried out by the Courts and not a Wild West style Lynch Mob on Ralf Little's twitter Account

A jail term will have no benefits to him at all and is the wrong approach. He should be hospitalized where proper help is at hand.

I feel strongly that if you want to kill yourself and you decide to choose a method that will potentially kill other people then you deserve everything you get if you survive.

That lorry driver could have been killed at the wheel, the lorry could have careered across the road, other road users could have ploughed into it. If you are so mentally sick that you cannot see this then you need to be in a mental hospital getting treatment, not let loose in society.

CC is ill and wouldn't mean to deliberately hurt others. But often a very, very selfish illness which needs treatment. If you live around it you occasionally want to take the person out yourself.
