Took a spin to La today along the A259, floods near Palatine Park almost stretching across both westbound lanes. Floods intermittently all the way to Rustington. Coming back floods were worse with water overflowing from The Rife tributary by Haskins Garden centre and pouring on to the road.. take care folks, needless to say the diabolical potholes have filled up with rainwater making them seem innocuous until you hit one !

On the A272 on the stretch through the fields between Bolney and Ansty, about halfway along the side travelling west, there's been a stubborn patch of floodwater for ages now. On days like today when its been raining non-stop, it'll be worse then usual. Its a 50mph stretch, but clattering through it at that speed will give you an almighty jolt on the wheel. Bollocks to anyone behind you, I recommend cantering past that bit at 35-40 tops.

Going to, say, the shops or the gym, is now a thing you do during the short break when its not pissing it down. Been like that for months now. Sake!

Terrible driving back from Piltdown to Newhaven this afternoon. Never seen so much heavy rain in one day. Streams a running across the road.

Coming in In the train between polegate and glynde it looks like Paddy fields, and coming into lewes from cooksbridge looks very very wet. It’s a good job network rail removed a lot of trees otherwise those embankments night full down , ohh hang on . I wonder if a hosepipe ban will be brought in in the summer around the south east ?

I have a small pond in my garden. Had it ten years. Today is the first day it has ever overflowed. It hasn't stopped raining fo a second here today. Not seen anything like it since I lived in Vancouver (where it would sometimes rain continuously day and night for 3 days).

Summer hosepipe bans guaranteed, then.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
The misery outside is preventing me from cycling home from work. I feel in my tummy though that the gastroenteritis i had a fortnight ago hasn't fully gone, so i'm expecting to be holding in a violent anal expulsion for at least a stop or two whilst sitting next to someone coughing a killer virus at me. Blast.

Over the last 2 years, the potholes from Haskins going west, have been dug out twice in readiness for refilling.

No prizes for getting how many times that refill has happened.

I drive that route most days for work and it's got so bad that even SUV's and 4x4's are swerving all over the place to dodge the holes and ruts. There were signs out stating there would be an overnight closure in early Feb, nothing happened though. 5th biggest economy in the world, eh ?

The entire Ouse valley north of Lewes appears to be one large lake, with the odd islet such as Hamsey. It’s been like that for many weeks.

Yeah something did happen, that's when they dug the potholes out, again.

Apparently after they dug the holes out for the first time, WSCC then realised they didn't have the correct planning permission to alter the road, but instead of having the decency to at least fill the holes in they just left everything.

Ah, I see. It seems cheaper just to put signs out stating " Uneven Surface " to cover insurance claims and just leave it as it is.

Gods country fortnightly
Last 10 days have been proper wet, still a huge deficit to make up from the summer though.
