Rail Meldown caused by SNOW

I've had a fun morning at work. All was well when I got up at 4.15am and no snow was seen in Brighton.

But as soon as my train arrived at Haywards Heath I knew it was going to be a fun morning. Plenty of snow on the ground, and trains struggling to pull away from the station.

Anyway, out at 0613 to Seaford and we managed to get away from Haywards Heath and made it to Lewes. But....

At Lewes we couldn't move the fucker, it took 30 minutes and a man with a tub of de-icer to get the train going.

It's been the same story all day with train conking out all over the shop.

Expect more fun for the PM peak.

I posted This Just over a year ago.

I think the rail companies must be waiting for global warming to really kick in, in the hope that snow will just be a thing of the past in this country.

Not really. They've gone for the cheap option of purchasing rails made from the kind of steel that buckles on a warm June day.

VH, I was thinking about what you said about dissatisfaction among FCC employees - presumably weather like this gives them the perfect excuse to stick one on their management by pissing around when it snows? Southern seemed to be working much better than them this morning (only about 20-30 mins late, I'd stopped looking by then...).

Southern and FCC both had major problems this morning.

Points failures at Haywards Heath and East Croydon didn't help.

Numerous FCC and Southern trains had major trouble pulling away from stations early this morning, and the conductor rail had ice on it, and the trains were unable to draw power.

Rumour has it that FCC no longer want their franchise.

Why? Cos they might actually have to invest in new trains instead of just painting the outside of the old Thameslink trains?

Don't forget though, that FCC have also painted the insides on some of them PINK!

I wasn't too late into LB this morning, but getting to Charing Cross was a nightmare.

I didn't make it from Shoreham to London Bridge today at all. Waited for 1/2 hour with nothing moving and gave up to work at home.

With heavier snow predicted for tomorrow I suspect that I might have to do the same.

This was due to a broken down train at Angmering this morning.

Don't forget though, that FCC have also painted the insides on some of them PINK!

Ah, yes, good point, well made. Plus, lest we forget, the Thameslink trains have proper loos with manual locking doors and everything. Unlike the Southern trains that have the loo-flushing button conveniently placed right next to the button that stops the train.

Perhaps on reflection, FCC could be awarded the Toilet Operatives franchise across the South East for a suitable number of years

Yes, I took a train from Seaford to East Croydon, it was 30+ late, but it did run.

Very comfy it was too.

Until I got to Lewes then had to get a train to Brighton. Still beat my sister into Brighton, who got a bus all the way.
